Safe transportation is an important part of supporting students with exceptionalities at school, at home, and in the community. Some students may require additional supports, specialized equipment, or adult assistance to travel safely. This page provides families with local resources, helpful information, and common terminology related to transportation.

Car Seat Installation & Safety Checks

Proper installation is essential for keeping children safe while traveling. Even high-quality equipment may not provide full protection if it is not used correctly. Parents and caregivers can receive free assistance from certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technicians to ensure car seats and adaptive equipment are installed and used properly.

Financial & Equipment Support

Some students require transportation equipment beyond a standard car seat. These supports can be costly, but assistance may be available for qualifying families.

Transportation Support Beyond School

Transportation needs often extend beyond the school day. Community resources may be available to help families access medical appointments and other essential services.

STPPS Transportation Supports & Key Terms

Transportation services may be provided when needed for a student to safely access their educational program. Within St. Tammany Parish Public Schools, transportation supports are determined by the IEP team based on individual student needs.

Families are encouraged to communicate with their child’s school team if they have questions or concerns about transportation.

When to Reach Out for Help

As students grow and their needs change, transportation supports may need to be updated. Families are encouraged to seek assistance when questions or concerns arise.
