Special Education (Students With Exceptionalities) Paraprofessional Course

To be considered for Special Education (Students with Exceptionalities) Aide positions in our school system, you must be at least 20 years old and applicants are required to complete the SWE Paraprofessional Course before completing an application for a job. 

This course consists of classroom instruction, tests, and NCI training (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention). Course participants are required to obtain CPR (infant, child, and adult) and First Aid certification. CPR and First Aid classes will be offered. Prior to receiving a course completion certificate, participants must provide copies of these credentials. The cost of the SWE Paraprofessional Course is $65. Once hired with our school system, you may request reimbursement for this fee. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED.

Educational Requirements:

To be considered for Students with Exceptionalities (SWE) Aide positions in our school system, applicants are required to complete the SWE Paraprofessional Course and meet one (1) of the following educational requirements:

  •  Associate Degree (or higher)

         OR

  • 48 college credits to include:  English Composition 3 hours, English/Reading 6 hours, and Mathematics 6 hours

        OR

  • Passing score of 450 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment test administered by Education Testing Services (www.ets.org)

        OR

  • ParaPathways Assessment Test: Reading and Writing (minimum score of 332) AND ParaPathways Assessment Test: Mathematics (minimum score of 334)

    ***If taken on or prior to August 31, 2026 - ParaPro Assessment (1755) will be accepted with a score of 450 or above. 

    Beginning September 1, 2026, Pathways 5758 and Pathways 5759 are the required assessments and acceptable scores.

Minimum age of 20 years is required for this position.
