Message from Superintendent Jabbia About Collective Bargaining Agreement

We provided an update about the School Board’s decision to not accept the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement as soon as the Board voted. I want to follow up with more details about what this means for our employees and district. I have been an employee of this school system for my entire career and I believe in our employees and their rights. I want to reassure our STPPS employees and entire community that we will work together as one team with input from all our employees to move our district forward into the future. Thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation as we work together to do what is best for our students and employees.

The decision for the Board to not accept the CBA was not anticipated so we are still working out the details, but we want to provide information we do have so far.

  • We will expand our Teacher and Support Employee Panels and work with members to turn the CBA language into a handbook that will serve as an employment contract - ensuring rights and protections for all employees.

  • This school year, all employees will receive a one-step increase and the state provided stipend - just as they would have under the proposed CBA. Raise and Compensation Information

  • Employee dental insurance coverage will remain intact.

  • The school system has always provided liability insurance for employees and will continue to do so.

  • While we have had a union CBA in place since 1991, the majority of school districts in Louisiana operate without a union and without a CBA.

  • We will continue to follow laws and School Board policies already in place.
