2025-2026 New Teacher of the Year Announced

The St. Tammany Parish Public School System (STPPS) is proud to announce that Madeleine Abadie of Lancaster Elementary has been named the 2025-2026 District New Teacher of the Year! The Louisiana Department of Education’s New Teacher of the Year program celebrates exceptional first-year educators across the state, and STPPS is excited to take part in this initiative for the first time.

"Madeleine Abadie is an outstanding new educator who goes the extra mile to inspire and support students in reaching their goals," said Superintendent Frank Jabbia. "I am incredibly proud of our New Teacher of the Year, whose passion and dedication will make a difference for years to come!"

The New Teacher of the Year is chosen for their exceptional contributions as a first-year classroom teacher, showcasing excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to student success.

Madeleine Abadie is a 5th-grade math and science teacher at Lancaster Elementary. With a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, she creates an engaging classroom environment where students build strong foundations in math and science while developing critical thinking skills. As a proud product of STPPS, she is passionate about giving back to her community. Her deep community involvement helps her connect with students and emphasize the importance of balancing academics and personal growth.

The Louisiana Department of Education plans to release nine New Teacher of the Year Finalists on March 18, 2025. The winner will be announced at the 18th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala in July.
