Channel 13 has a staff of broadcast professionals that produce award-winning programs that highlight the events and people of the St. Tammany Parish Public School System. Original programming includes Chalk Talk, the station’s premier news magazine, Prep Zone sports, choral and band performances, School Board meetings, graduation ceremonies, and much more. Channel 13 also airs live shuttle launches and landings via satellite from NASA.
Channel 13 offers broadcasting internships to high school students who wish to study and intern in the field of broadcasting. Students learn to write a script, operate a camera, report the news, anchor a show, and edit video while working alongside professionals from the broadcast industry now at Channel 13. This one – year Carnegie unit course is offered to juniors and seniors in the school district. Many of our interns have continued on in video production and broadcasting and are employed at such places as WDSU-TV, WBRZ-TV, WWL-TV, KDFW-TV, and DreamWorks Animation.
Channel 13 also offers a week-long video production workshop to high school broadcasting students each summer. Students write, edit, and shoot a video on a topic of local interest with the help of the Channel 13 staff. A video festival is held on the final day of the week where friends and family are invited to view the premier showing of the videos. The videos are then aired on Channel 13.
Channel 13 is available to Charter Cable subscribers and to AT&T U-Verse subscribers on Channel 99. The Charter channel guide feature allows Charter Cable viewers to quickly identify the program currently on the air. Viewers can also watch our shows live stream from our home webpage and can view and/or download our shows on our Video on Demand page.
The Video Production Studio and Editing Suite facilitates System productions for parishwide broadcast. A broadcast studio with three cameras, an editing room equipped with seven digital editing systems, and a control room provide state-of-the-art facilities for production purposes. The studio also functions as a training facility for high school students who wish to study and intern in the broadcasting field.
