Real and personal property of the St. Tammany Parish Public Schools constitutes the greatest investments of taxpayer'’ funds in the School District. It is in the best interest of the School System to protect these investments consistently and wisely.
Security should mean not only maintenance of a secure (locked) building but protection from fire hazards, natural disasters, faulty equipment, and following safe practices in the use of electrical, plumbing, and heating equipment. Staff members shall cooperate closely with local police, fire, and sheriff's departments and with insurance company inspectors.
Access to school buildings and grounds after regular school hours shall, unless otherwise authorized, be limited to personnel whose work requires it. An adequate key control system shall be established which will limit access to buildings to authorized personnel. A purpose of this System is to provide safeguards against the potential of entrance to buildings by keys in the hands of unauthorized persons.
Records and funds shall be kept in a safe place and under lock and key when required.
Protective devices designed to be used as safeguards against illegal entry and vandalism shall be installed when appropriate to the individual situation. Employment of security personnel may be approved in situations where special risks are involved. The Board instructs the Superintendent to take strong measures within legal proscriptions to minimize vandalism and to recover damages from persons vandalizing any public School System property, including school plants, grounds or integral parts thereof.
