PREGNANT STUDENTS

A pupil who becomes pregnant should notify the principal in writing immediately upon knowledge of the condition. A physician's statement may be required to safeguard the pupil's health stating the pupil's medical condition and activities in which the pupil may not participate. The school will not be held responsible for any medical problems that may arise with a pregnant pupil while she is in school.

Marital, maternal, or paternal status shall not affect the rights and privileges of pupils to receive a public education nor to take part in any extracurricular activities offered by the school.

Pregnant pupils shall be permitted to continue in school in all instances when continued attendance has the sanction of the expectant mother's physician. The physician's approval of this continued attendance must be on file at the school. The school administration is authorized to make special arrangements for the instruction of pregnant pupils and to provide an educational program designed to meet their special needs.
