Top Gains School

Louisiana Education Superintendent John White visited the Central Office of the St. Tammany Parish Public School System Tuesday, December 18, to recognize 27 schools for recently announced significant improvements to their School Performance Scores. Administrators, teachers, and parent representatives from the 27 schools designated “Top Gains” schools for the 2011-2012 School Year were congratulated for their accomplishment, with each school receiving awards for education projects and expenses.

Woodlake Elementary was very proud to be one of those 27 schools. Attending the ceremony from Woodlake from Left to Right were third grade teacher and PTA Board Member, Rosalyn Cosby, Principal, Lelia Parker, and PTA President, Stephanie Folse.

Toys for Tots

Woodlake Elementary School was proud to serve as an official Toys for Tots drop off Location this holiday season. The children graciously donated many toys to be given to less fortunate children in the local community in the effort to make their day. During Friday’s morning meeting Sergeant Lewis and Sergeant Hayes of the United States Marine Corps joined our faculty and students to collect the toys and thank them for their acts of kindness. During this holiday season the Woodlake Family realizes how important it is for each and every child to have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Reading Certificates

Dominique Zapata (left) and Brooklyn Hahn (right) are just two of the many students at Woodlake Elementary, that are earning certificates for reading. Students at Woodlake participate in the Accelerated Reader Program, which allows them to read books and take comprehension quizzes to strengthen their reading and comprehension skills. Students are excited to receive their certificates from Principal, Lelia Parker, at their school-wide morning meeting. Each quiz they take brings them closer to goals set by their teachers, and earning rewards. The program has really encouraged students to read! To date, students at Woodlake have read over 8,000 books this year and that number grows each day. You can see that number grow and check out some of the books students are reading on Woodlake's school website.
