A Grab-n-Go Breakfast Station!

St. Tammany Junior High School was recently awarded two grants to promote healthy breakfast choices.  Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) and the Louisiana Dairy Council are helping make the Grab-n-Go Breakfast a reality for the students.

Cafeteria manager, Judy Rayburn, distributed flyers in classrooms and had students advertise the program through morning announcements and live broadcasts.  The Nutrition Advisory Council (NAC) organized a series of breakfast taste test days to select the items offered.

Judy and her staff offer a variety of breakfast foods including low-fat dairy products, whole grain, fruits and fruit juices.
Students may stay outside in the picnic area and are able to socialize with friends while enjoying a nutritious breakfast.  The Grab-n-Go breakfast station is located in front the gym where students tend to gather in the morning.  Traditional breakfast is still served daily in the cafeteria.

Principal Vince DiCarlo is very involved with the program and is planning a contest between grades to add interest.
