Second in State

Matthew Marton is an 8th grader at Slidell Jr. Last week he went to the state BETA convention in Lafayette where he competed in the Social Studies competition. Competing against over 200 other students, he placed 2nd in the state. The school is making plans for him to attend the nationals in Mobile.

T-Shirt Design Winner

Slidell Junior High's PTA and Student Council recently sponsored an 8th grade t-shirt design contest. Jordyn Carter won the contest, receiving a $50 prize. The design will be used on a tshirt of the 8th graders.  Pictured are Jordyn Carter, at right, and Principal Patrick Mackin.

Teacher Dance Off

At a recent Slidell Junior High pep rally there was a teacher dance off to entertain the crowd. The cheerleaders and dance team taught them some moves and they strutted their stuff. Students of the Month

Slidell Junior High is proud to announce the students of the month.  Students are nominated by their teacher for going above and beyond expectations. Students will be treated to lunch from a local restaurant.

Vegetables Donated

Slidell Junior High's Green Academy recently went to Mt. Olive Feeding Ministry to donate vegetables to the kitchen that have been grown at Slidell Junior High in the vegetable garden. Cans Collected

SJHS National Junior Honor Society students collected cans schoolwide to donate to a local food pantry for the Thanksgiving holidays. Pictured are Jennifer Cabrera, Daniella Ovalle, Johann Bradley, Trevor Roy, and Sponsor Mrs. Chapman.

 

Trunk or Treat

SJHS National Junior Honor Society participated in the Florida Avenue Trunk or Treat passing out candy to the elementary students.

 

Students of the Month

Emilie Gentry and Leevi Morris, 7th grade, and Justin Wiley and Jyreiel Donaldson, 8th grade accompanied by Principal Patrick Mackin, center. Ther Student of the Month program is one way we recognize students who represent the best of Slidell Junior High School. Each of the students of the month, along with a friend, will be joining the principal in our cafeteria one day this month for lunch from a local restaurant. We are very proud of these students and their accomplishments!

Students of the Month

Slidell Junior High Students of the month are Jazlyn Bright, 8th grade; Sydney Clarke, 7th grade; Tyrone Bank, 7th grade; and Tyler McManus, 8th grade.

Our Student of the Month program is one way we recognize students who represent the best of Slidell Junior High School. The students of the month, along with a friend of each, will be joining the Principal in our cafeteria one day this month for lunch from a local restaurant. We are very proud of these students.

 

Spanish Flag Presented

A new Spanish flag was presented to Mayor Freddy Drennan in ceremonies Wednesday morning at the flagpole area north of Slidell Train Depot. The band played the National Anthem and the Spanish National Anthem, while the Mayor and Tyler McManus raised the flag next to the statue of John Slidell.

The mayor told of the importance of the Spanish heritage to the area and the growing Spanish population.

Academic Olympics Team

Congratulations to the SJHS Academic Olympics team who did extremely well this past Saturday at Pope John Paul. The following students placed out of 230 students across the parish and New Orleans:

Kaley Pichon- 1st in 7th grade English; Gabe Nelson- 1st in 7th grade Science; Trevor Roy- 3rd in 8th grade Science; Matthew Marton- 3rd in 8th grade Social Studies; Alexis Cambridge- 4th in 8th grade English; Bri Robertson- 4th in 8th grade Math; and Alexis Strain- 4th in 7th grade Reading

August Students of the Month

Slidell Junior High is proud to announce their August Students of the Month.



Claire Hudson was nominated by her Social Studies teacher, William Decker. Mr. Decker said, “Claire works hard every day. She is always willing to help others in her group during class”.

Amanda Stafford was nominated by her PE coach, Joey Brockhoff. Coach Brockhoff said, “Amanda is always dressed out and always gives me her best effort, no matter what activity we are doing. Amanda also volunteers to help me out by filling up the football coolers with ice after class”.

Trevor Roy was nominated by his ELA teacher, Stefanie Chapman. Mrs. Chapman said, “Trevor is an excellent leader with a perfect GPA. He is a member of NJHS, Beta Club, Robotics, and Math Counts. Trevor took the initiative this summer to organize the students in NJHS for the 7th grade Tiger Walk. He was instrumental in making sure over 14 students were on campus to give tours. His mom said he wanted to make sure I could continue enjoying my summer without worry. He is immensely mature and has very bright future ahead of him. Trevor stays after school to assist me and other teachers. He is a JOY to teach”.

Tyran Brule was nominated by his teacher, Ann Davis. Mrs. Davis said, “Tyran Brule is a seventh grade student with the best manners we’ve ever seen. He is polite and courteous; he voluntarily holds the door for everyone and always greets everyone with a smile and a kind word. In the classroom he tries his best at all times (and really that’s all one can ask from a student). He is a joy and a pleasure to teach”.
