Winterguard Favorites

The Slidell High School color guard unit recently participated in the 2013 Louisiana State Winterguard completion at Southeastern on April 6. Winterguard is an indoor competition where high school color guard units perform with recorded music and are judged according to set criteria developed nationally.

The Slidell Winterguard shows are one of the crowd favorites every year. This year's show was titled "Those Good Old Days." The meaning of the show is truly left up to the individual audience member, but the students bring on a sense of nostalgia as we reflect on the memories shared with lost loved ones.

The 2013 season began after Thanksgiving break in 2012 with a single 10-hour camp one Saturday and a 10-hour, 3-day camp during winter break. The guard practiced an additional 6 hours every week after school and countless hours individually at home.

Slidell High first joined the Louisiana Colorguard and Percussion Circuit in 2007, placing third in Novice Class at State Championships. In 2008 the Slidell High team was crowned first in the Scholastic Regional A class.

Dingy Race

Slidell High Physics classes competing with their designs in the outdoor pool at the Slidell Athletic Club. These cardboard and duct tape creations had to survive 2 laps of each race.   Calculations such as actual waterline and buoyancy of the craft and driver were tested – and of course, the fun of winning each heat and staying dry won the day. A special thanks to the Slidell Athletic Club for their continued support and use of their facilities throughout the school year!
