PTA Reflections Contest

Riverside Elementary recently held their annual PTA Reflections Contest where several students excelled in Literature, Visual Arts, and Film. Students went on to compete on the district level where on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the District PTA Children’s banquet the following students will be recognized: Kaden Keppler earned the Award of Merit in the Primary Division in Literature, Cole Pinterick earned the Award of Excellence in the Intermediate Division in Visual Arts, Hailey Miles earned the Award of Excellence in Intermediate Division in Film and Literature, and Katie Ellington earned the Award of Excellence in the Intermediate Division in Literature. Three of these students will also be recognized on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the State PTA Children’s Banquet in Pineville, Louisiana. They are as follows: Haley Miles for Film, Cole Pinterick for Visual Arts, and Katie Ellington for Literature.

Citizens of the Month

Riverside Elementary recently held its January/February Citizen of the Month Celebration where family and friends were invited to share snacks and juice while certificates were presented.

Regional Science Fair Winners

One February 6, 2014, five of Riverside Elementary 5th grade students participated in the Regional Science Fair that was held in Hammond at Southeastern Louisiana University. Students took home one first place, two second place and two honorable mentions.

Singing Praise Ornaments

As a community connection the Christmas trees were made by Mrs. Whitehead, 4th grade teacher, and her UNO student teacher Gabrielle Lombard.  The students were given paper ornaments for their parents to decorate “singing praise” to their students.  The students in both pictures are Marissa E., Landon J. and Brooke F. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Robotics Competition Takes Off

The Riverside Elementary Robotics Team participated in a robotics competition at Northshore High School on Saturday, November 9th. The nine team members were excited to find out that they had placed first in the daily competition and qualified to participate in the Regional Tournament to be held on Saturday, December 6th at Holy Cross in New Orleans. This is Riverside's second year to have a robotics team, and all members are in the fifth grade. The theme for this year's competition is "Nature's Fury."
