Reading and Exercising

Riverside Elementary has joined two very important campaigns-- Junior League of Greater Covington’s Jumpstart Read for the Record and Fuel Up to Play 60. In order to stress the importance of exercising your mind and body, Riverside’s school news team WRSE had the opportunity to interview a special guest about the importance of staying active, eating healthy and learning.

Dylan Beard, a fifth grade member of our school news team interviewed Mr. Lee Couret, a physical therapist. Mr. Couret is the owner of Southshore Physical Therapy clinic in Metairie, LA and he is currently the physical therapist for the University of New Orleans Privateers and a local triathlon team called the Swamp Dawg Multisport Team. He is a certified USA Cycling Coach, Certified USA Triathlon Coach, and has competed in and finished many triathlons, including the Ironman Triathlon. Mr. Couret spoke about how he became involved in staying fit, helping others, physical and mental fitness along with importance of healthy eating in order to help get our students motivated for the National and NFL initiative Fuel Up and Play 60.

On October 6, 2011, Mr. Lee Couret read the tale “Llama Llama Red Pajama” to Riverside Elementary students in order to help us participate in the world’s largest shared reading experience, presented by Junior League of Greater Covington’s Jumpstarts Read for the Record, a campaign to help bring national attention to the importance of preparing our children to read at an early age. Our children loved having Mr. Couret share his knowledge of how to stay physically fit by eating healthy and staying active and mentally fit by learning.
