Walking Through History, Kobe Callahan takes the audience through the life of Solomon Northup, a free man of color who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. It was Solomon’s autobiography that inspired the film, “12 Years a Slave”.

l

Students participated in the Pine View Middle School’s Black History Program depicting segregation through the life of “The Little Rock Nine” black students whom attended the previously all-white Little Rock Central High School based on their excellent grades and attendance.

Beads Collected

l

Pine View Middle School students, spearheaded by the Student Council, collected Mardi Gras beads to donate to STARC, an organization which services disabled people from birth through adulthood. The adults in the STARC organization will earn a paycheck by selling the Mardi Gras beads to crews during the Mardi Gras season. The students pictured from left to right are Marley Williams and Maddy Leichtenberg.

Family Fitness Night

All the photos below took place at our "Family Fitness Night" at PVMS where students participated in activities centered on how to live a healthy life.  The event took place on Monday, February 3, from 6-7 PM.

l

Here we see Ms. Holly Malone teaching that “Lungs are a Beautiful Thing”—The activity discussed how we breathe, disease or illness can inflame our lungs by making our airway narrow.  The participants also breathed through straws and pinched them for the effect. Pictured are Ms. Holy Malone, Ms. Toni Young, Sierra Peterson, and Christian Peterson.

l

Here we have Mrs. Linda McCarthy at the “HEART” station. She is showing how your heartbeat is related to your pulse. The activity shows the movement of the pulse. The straw will vibrate or “twitch” if it is placed on the pulsating blood vessel in the wrist.  Very interesting! In the photo is Kenbri Gould (6th grade), Kylinn Gould (4th grade) their mother, Jamie Gould, and Mrs. Linda McCarthy.

l

Pictured above is Ms. Roxanne Rouchon demonstrating the importance of a healthy mouth.  The main idea of her activity was ”You need a healthy mouth to enjoy your food.”  Pictured from left to right are Joe Duplessis, his mother Charity Duplesis, as well as his two brothers Caynon and Caffery, Ms. DiMarco, and Ms. Rouchon.

Club Day at Pine View

Twenty eight clubs were spotlighted by the recent Pine View Middle School monthly "Club Day." The purpose of Club Day is to allow all students the opportunity to participate in a club experience at school. The goals include building positive relationships between students and school faculty and staff; nurturing student interests by exposing them to a variety of experiences; promoting the development of social skills; and expanding the program to include community members. Club Day is the last hour of the last Friday of the month. All teachers and Paras facilitate the clubs, which are located in every available space on campus. Pine View Middle School students joined together with the Student Council to collect food items to make up ten holiday meal boxes for needy families of our school community.  The Student Council representatives sold Harvest Candy Grams at Halloween time to purchase turkeys to include in each of the boxes.  Acquistapace's Supermarket has generously donated ten turkeys to complete the holiday meals. Now the Student Council will be able to contribute to another great cause.
