Cheerleaders Win Honors

The Monteleone Jr. High Marlin Cheerleaders competed and placed 3rd at the Kickin’ it for Kids Championship hosted by Spirit Professionals on January 13 th. All proceeds from the Marlins were donated to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. The Marlin Cheerleaders are coached by Stephanie Kell and Rachelle Kelley.

Darlin Marlins Win Trophies

On Sunday, January 6, 2013, the Monteleone Junior High Darlin Marlins dance team competed at the UDA state competition at Southeastern University. Their months of hard work paid off as they brought home 2nd place trophies in both pom and jazz categories! Caroline Marshall, one of the 8th grade captains, also competed in the soloist division and came in 10th place. The Darlin Marlins will be attending the UDA national competition at Disney World in early February. Donations for Gifts

Reflection Contest Winners

Monteleone Jr. High students, Julia Elmer and Olivia Morales, were selected as PTSA reflection contest winners.   They will be recognized at the Children’s Banquet in March.

 

Student of the Year

Monteleone Junior High selected Lauren Hickey as the 2012-13 Student of the Year.  Lauren is very involved in school and community activities.  She is Vice President of the Builder’s Club and Secretary of Nu Alpha.  Lauren is also a member of the Beta Club and Talented Theater program.  She is pictured with her grandmother, Gwen McKeon and her mother, Chandelle Hickey.

Cancer Donation Drive

Monteleone Jr. High students teamed up to fight breast cancer.  The students raised $570 for the Ochsner Foundation for breast cancer research.  The captains of the Monteleone football team presented the check to the representatives from Ochsner. Veterans Day

Fundraiser Project

Monteleone Jr. High recently sold poinsettias as a fundraiser.  The money earned was used for new technology.  The top sellers served as Principal and Assistant Principal of the day.  Pictured are Sheri Jones, Trey Galland and Laurance Hagan.

Fence Ribbons

Nathan Smith (left) and Brooke Ponthier, 7th graders in Paige Gunter’s English class at Monteleone Junior High, tie ribbons to the school’s fence. At the beginning of the school year students were issued a "40 Book Challenge" to read 40 novels this school year. During the first nine weeks of school, students collectively read 2383 books. Each ribbon placed on the fence represents one of the books.  So far, Nathan has read 27 books and Brooke has read 11.

Gift Card Winners

The Walmart Neighborhood Market in Mandeville recently awarded 20 Monteleone Junior High Teachers and Administrators with $50 gift cards to purchase classroom supplies through its Walmart Teacher Rewards Program. Mobile Mining

Monteleone Junior High Earth Science classes experienced mobile mining after studying rocks and minerals.  The students got the opportunity to mine a box of Brazilian mining ore to discover their own gem collection.  Pictured are Danielle Loup and Madelyn Fayard.

Gator Visit

King Cake Honors

Monteleone Junior High held an Honor Roll King Cake party on January 25, 2012.   All students who earned a 3.5 or higher the 2 nd nine weeks were invited to attend.  167 students enjoyed king cake, juice and prizes.  Pictured are Bayley Lyle, Nicholas Miceli, Catherine Norris, Adam Vigueira, and Camryn Collins.

 

Honor Band Concert

The LMEA District IX Jr. High Honor Band clinic and concert took place at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond on January 19-21. Pictured are Monteleone Junior High School band students who auditioned and were selected to participate in the honor band under the direction of guest conductor, Mr. Paul Frechou. PTSA Grants

Rebecca Bunce received a $200 grant from the Monteleone Junior High PTSA. The money will be used to purchase an IPOD Touch and APPS to use in her American History class. Pictured are : Carolyn Bertucci, Rebecca Bunce, and Stacey Neill.

 

The Monteleone Junior High ELA department recently received an $800 grant from the PTSA.  The money will be used to purchase books for their students to read as part of the “40 Book Challenge”.  So far this year their students have read over 5500 books. Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mr. Craig Camus for being selected as the 2012 – 2013 Monteleone Junior High Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Camus teaches 8th grade ELA and coaches track, football and basketball.  He also serves on numerous committees and is always willing to help when needed.  This is his seventh year at Monteleone Junior High.  Pictured on the front row are Allison Ducre, Craig Camus, Brianda Robinson, Alyssa Alvarez and Emily Workman. Toy Drive

The Monteleone Jr. High Beta Club recently sponsored a toy drive.  The toys were donated to Project Christmas, a non-profit organization that provides help to needy families on the Northshore. Cheerleaders Place 2nd

The Monteleone Jr. High Cheerleaders recently competed in the LHSAA State Cheer Competition. The Marlins received second place in their division and earned an automatic bid to national cheer competition in Orlando Florida. The squad will compete for a national title February 10 - 14. The Marlin Cheerleaders are coached by Stephanie Kell & Rachelle Kelley. Earthquake Detection

Nicole Ferrara  and Anna Kathryn Thames, students in Christina Hotard’s science class at Monteleone Junior High, work on testing the magnitude and intensity of an earthquake created by dropping a book from a chair using the accelerometer and the iSeismograph App in their classes new iPads. The iPads were recently donated by the Harvey L. Foster Foundation for Science Education.

Spanish Discussed

Monteleone Junior High students in Barbara Sutton’s Spanish class enjoyed a “cultural hour” with guest speaker Gary Fayard. He explained how Spanish has been important in his teaching and his travels and brought some colorful and fascinating relics from his trips to South America. iPads Presented

The Harvey L. Foster Foundation for Science Education granted Monteleone Junior High School five iPads for science education. The iPad applications will allow students to use scientific inquiry to learn everything from scientific vocabulary to how a seismograph works. Shown are: Harvey L. All Pro Dads

On September 15 Monteleone Junior High held its first “All Pro Dads” meeting. The guests enjoyed breakfast and heard an inspirational speech about overcoming the obstacle of fear. The next meeting will be Oct. 19 at 7:30 a.m. in the LMJH cafeteria.
