Marigny Matinee

l

March 28th we celebrated students with starrific behavior for the third quarter.  Students were given a movie ticket to get into the Marigny Matinee.  Popcorn and water were served and a movie about friendship was viewed.  Students really enjoyed this afternoon treat and it was well deserved.

Buddy Bench

l

At our K-Kids meeting in February students were introduced to a new special bench that is on the playground.  It is called the buddy bench.  When students feel they need a friend to talk to our play with they sit on the buddy bench.

 

Cultural Arts Day

l

On March 20th students at Marigny participated in Cajun dancing, fishing pole casting, and life jacket safety.  Students also learned about our state insect the honeybee and wind speeds during a hurricane as well as weather safety.  We had a fun filled Cultural Arts Day!

Singer Visits Marigny

l

Johnette Downing, a local singer and book writer, visited Marigny to sing songs and read stories about Louisiana.  The students had a fantastic time dancing and singing. 

 

Marigny Wins National PTA Award

l

Marigny Elementary School recently won a National PTA Award for parental involvement as a result of its “Take Your Family To School Week” activities in February.
Representing Marigny Elementary at a recent School Board meeting where the school was honored for the outstanding recognition were, from left to right, Technology Resource Teacher Lauren Huvall, Principal Leslie Martin, Assistant Principal Amy Haley, and PTA President Julie Faucheux. 


The National PTA® has recognized Marigny Elementary School PTA with a $1000 grant for its efforts to strengthen family engagement in St. Tammany Parish Public School Systemthrough PTA Take Your Family to School Week. Marigny Elementary School PTA is one of only 51 PTAs,nationwide and in Europe, selected to receive a grant. Being recognized with a grant, demonstrates Marigny Elementary School's leadership and commitment to building family-school partnerships to support student success and school improvement.

"Decades of research shows that when families and schools work together, student achievement increases, schools improve and communities grow stronger," said Otha Thornton, National PTA President. "PTA Take Your Family to School Week is designed to spotlight the importance of family-school partnerships and expand and enhance family engagement efforts in schools across the country. We are pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication of Marigny Elementary School PTA to ensure families are involved in Marigny Elementary School and St. Tammany Parish Public School System, during PTA Take Your Family to School Week and throughout the year."

This year, PTATake Your Family to School Week will be marked Feb. 17-21, 2014 and will incorporate the theme "Supporting Student Success." The timing of the week honors the day PTA was founded: Feb. 17, 1897. Throughout the week, PTAs and schools across the country will host family-focused events with an emphasis on addressing risks associated with high school drop-out byraising awareness of bullying prevention and multiculturalism, increasing arts participation and improving literacy and math skills.
During PTATake Your Family to School Week, Marigny Elementary School PTA will help host "Muffins with Mom" and Starfish Showcase Family Learning Night and Art Show.

Valentine's Day

Marigny felt the love on February 14th with lots of red and pink.  Students exchanged valentine’s card in their classrooms with their friends.

Starfish Showcase

Marigny held its Starfish Showcase on February 20th.  This is a special night for families to come and have dinner, visit the bookfair, look at an art gallery, and play educational games with their child.

Learn Pads Delivered

l

AXI presented Ms. Kelly Battle (first grade teacher) with a class set of learn pads. Ms. Battle and Lauren Huval, our TRT, have been working with the educational consultant from AXI tointegrate them into the classroom and our curriculum.

Shoebox Mardi Gras Parade February 27

Marigny is gearing up for our Mardi Gras celebrations.  Our first grade students will have a shoebox parade Thursday, February 27, at 10 a.m. around the school. Pre-K and Kindergarten will have their traditional parade to Lake Harbor Middle School and Magnolia Trace Elementary at 1:30 p.m. The Lake Harbor Band will play as we pass by Lake Harbor.

 

Body Walk

In January students at Marigny Elementary learned all about the parts of the body and their functions.  Students from Fontainebleau High school helped us run the different parts of the body and teach the students.  When students finished going through the body they received a coloring sheet and a healthy snack!

100th Day of School

l

On January 22nd students were in school for 100 days.  Classes did many different activities with the number 100 and some made special hats.  We also had a few friends that dressed like they were 100 years old and even had Zero the Hero visit!

Superintendent Visits K-Kids Club

l

Superintendent W. L. "Trey" Folse, III visited the K-Kids Club meeting on Monday afternoon, reading to them one of his favorite books "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" He met with three local Kiwanis Club members, sponsors of the K-Kids Club, talked with teachers, and held a question and answer session with the students.

Principal Receives State Finalist Plaque

a

Principal Leslie Martin received a plaque recognizing her as a finalist in the 2014 Louisiana State Principal of the Year Program during a banquet Friday night, July 12, in Baton Rouge. She was honored for her selection as a Regional Winner and State Finalist and congratulated at the event by Superintedent W. L. "Trey" Folse, III, and Assistant Superintendent Cheryl Arabie.
