DAR & DA Awards
Mandeville Junior High students were awarded certificates at the school's annual end of year Academic Awards Ceremony. Duke Talent Found
Mandeville Jr. High School seventh grade student, Lindsey Licciardi, was recently presented with Grand Recognition and State Recognition awards in the Duke Talent Search Program sponsored by Duke University. Ms. Kathy Glaser, MJH Counselor is the school coordinator for the program.
Mandeville Junior High boys recently won the Parish Volleyball Championship for the large schools division. MJH defeated Fontainebleau Jr. High for the championship. Sixth Grade Night
Mandeville Junior High held its annual "6th Grade Night." Parents of future Patriots were invited to school to meet with elective teachers, club sponsors, coaches and teachers of special programs to get information about the school. Mandeville Junior High rewarded their 7th Grade TOT Students (Teens On Time) with extra lunch and door prizes. Seventh grade students at Mandeville Junior High planted a Japanese magnolia tree on their campus recently. The tree was placed in recognition of a class trip to see the movie, The Lorax, which encourages children to plant trees and to make positive changes in the environment. DEA Career Visit
Mandeville Junior High students received a visit from the Drug Enforcement Administration as a part of the school's career education activities. PBIS Person of the Month
Mandeville Junior High announced Mrs. Teresa Landrum as PBIS Person for the Month of March. Mrs. Landrum lives the Fish Philosophy on a daily basis by being there, choosing her attitude, having fun and making someone’s day! She was presented with a token gift of appreciation and she will enjoy parking in the designated PBIS parking spot near the front of the school. Patriot Prize Winner
Mandeville Junior High congratulates Mia Dubroc for being the February Patriot Prize winner. Ms. Celeste Porche gave the Patriot Buck to Mia for helping in the library. Mardi Gras Culture

Black History Month
Mandeville Junior High students celebrated Black History Month by participating in various classroom activities. The band learned about the African American influence on music and other classes chose quotes, poetry, art projects, research or studied literature involving influential Black Americans. Substitute of the Year
Mandeville Junior High is proud to announce Robbie Edgerson as "Substitute of the Year." Mrs. Edgerson has worked for the St. Tammany Parish School System since 1991. She has been subbing in a long term position at Mandeville Junior High since September of this year. Mrs. Edgerson was selected by her co-workers for her positive attitude and dedication to the students of Mandeville Jr. High.

Mardi Gras Design
Students in Ms. Christine Whan's class at Mandeville Junior High completed a Mardi Gras project for their Louisiana History Class. The students had a choice to design and create one of the following: a brochure, a doubloon or a t-shirt. Mandeville Junior High's Patriot Prize winner for the month of January is Kyle Lockhart. When his Patriot Buck was pulled, he was rewarded with a gift certificate. Kyle is pictured with Coach Jeremy Picone who issued the Patriot Buck to Kyle. The Patriot Prize is a part of the school's Positive Behavior Support Program.

Student of the Year
Mandeville Junior High announced Shalin Bhatt is the 2011-12 Student of the Year. He will go on to compete at the district and state level. Shalin is very involved in school and community activities. He is the MJH Band Captain, and he is a member of the SADD Club, Builder's Club, Friends of Rachel Club, MJH Student Council and Patriot Buddies Club.
Honor Roll Breakfast
Mandeville Junior High held it PTA sponsored Honor Roll Breakfast for the second nine weeks grading period. Special guest, Ryan C. Lowe, spoke to the students and congratulated their accomplishments. Award of Excellence
Mandeville Junior High student Ian Hebert won an Award of Excellence at the District Level for his PTA Reflections Literature entry. His entry is going on to compete at the state level.
Dance Team Extreme
Olivia Wong, Captain of the Mandeville Jr. High Dance Team, recently won 1 st place for her solo at the American All-Star State Dance Team Competition held in the Cajun Dome in Lafayette, LA.
The Mandeville Jr. High Dance Team ensemble won 2nd place in the state with their circus themed routine performed at the American All-Star State Dance Team Competition. Members of the ensemble are: First row – Brianna Dobson, Morgan Rumsey, Ali Laiche, Elise Broussard. Second row: Lexi Ellefson, Kendall Duncan, Olivia Wong, Maddie Schmidt, and Raegan Bouza. Honor Band Members
The LMEA District IX Junior High Honor Band clinic and concert took place at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond on January 19 - 21. Amplify Youth performed at Mandeville Jr. High on Monday, Jan. 23rd. The performance included music and skits to spread the message of staying drug and alcohol free. 100th Day of School
Mandeville Junior High students in Jodi Newman and Julie Simon's math classes celebrated the 100th day of school with a competition. Students were challenged to estimate the weight of one hundred Starbursts. Students who won were awarded a bag of Starbursts. District Honor Jazz Band
Mandeville Junior High had two band students make the District Honor Jazz Band for the 2011-2012 school year: Harrison Williams and Ryan Ehrlicher. The Honor Jazz clinic/concert will take place in the beginning of February at Fontainebleau High School. The MJH Band Director is Ms. Jennifer Pulling.

Hot Cocoa Party
Mary Ruli's 7th grade class at Mandeville Junior High was rewarded with a "Hot Cocoa Party" for being the class to donate the most slippers to the Student Council's annual slipper drive. Almost 70 percent of this class contributed to the school's donation. Pictured are Evan Cook, Kearby Stiles, Margaret Larsen, Maghee McMullen, Shane Seeger and Harrison Williams. The slippers were donated to a local retirement home.
Mrs. Janet Manint, the Resource Helping Teacher of Mandeville Junior High, retires after over 35 years of service in education. Mrs. Manint was Mandeville Jr. High's Teacher of the Year in 1989-90.
Spanish Songs Entertain
Max Prosper and Alex Hollander spread some holiday cheer around Mandeville Junior High. The Spanish I elective students in Ms. Angie Vizzuett's class sang songs in Spanish to kick off the PTA's teacher luncheon for the teachers.

Anti-Bully Poster Contest
Mandeville Junior High's Positive Behavior and Supports Intervention Committee held an anti bully poster contest to help reach the objective of raising awareness of different types of bullying. The 7th grade winner was Finn Bicknell and 8th grade winner was Jessica Saeli. Each winner received a $25 gift certificate.

What's Cooking in Spanish Class?
As a culminating activity in the study of Hispanic countries and culture, the students in Mrs. Lilia Cleland's Spanish Classes at Mandeville Jr. High researched special dishes, presented their findings, and enjoyed a "tasting" of Hispanic cuisine.

Builders Club Food Drive
Mandeville Junior High's Builder's Club recently conducted a non-perishable food drive for the Samaritan Center. Students generously donated more than 1000 food items for the Center. The 7th Grade class donating the most items was Mrs. Judy Carollo's homeroom and the 8th Grade class with the most donations was Mrs. Teri Kleibert's homeroom.

International Night Skit
The Mandeville Junior High French Club performed a skit at International Night held at Southeastern Louisiana University on Monday, November 14th. The buffet and variety show is held annually to celebrate International Education Week. The event also raises funds for scholarships awarded by the Department of Languages and Communication to Southeastern Louisiana University students planning to study abroad. The MJH French Club students were the featured act for the event, as they actively brought the French language into the community. Students on the Mandeville Junior High broadcast team recently participated in a poinsettia sales fundraiser to raise money that will be used to purchase new equipment for the school’s inhouse broadcast program. Dylan Warder (left) and Kiera Reardon (right) were the top salespeople in the program. They received prizes and gift cards from Barnes & Noble, Backyard Burger, About Face, Tiffany Sports Center, Bop’s, Sonic, and Hollywood Theater. Thanks to these local merchants for their donations and to everyone who purchased poinsettias to support our school.
All State Choir

Talented Class Visits NOMA
Mandeville Junior High students enrolled in Talented Art classes recently visited the New Orleans Museum of Art. The students were looking at pottery to get ideas for bowls they were going to make in class. The trip was funded by the Brown Foundation through a service learning grant that was awarded to the school this year. Mandeville Junior High students in Mrs. Angie Vizzuett's Spanish class welcomed a guest speaker to MJH and enjoyed refreshments. Employee of the Month
Mandeville Junior High congratulates Mrs. Anna Porte for being selected MJH’s PBIS FISH Employee of the Month. Anna lives the FISH PHILOSOPHY everyday at MJH and we appreciate all that she does to “Make Our Day”! Anna was given a small gift of appreciation and she will enjoy parking in the designated PBIS parking spot for the month of October. Math With A Twist
Seventh grade students at Mandeville Junior High in Ms. Julie Simon's class and Mrs. Jodi Newman's class learned math with a twist. They rewrote songs to include math concepts and performed their new song to their classmates. Davis Foreman, Guy LeCompte and Max Prosper created "Integer Night" as a parody to Micheal Jackson's song, "Thriller."
Teen Read Week
Mandeville Junior High participated in "Teen Read Week" the third week in October. Celeste Porche, the Librarian and Mary Ruli, an English teacher, sponsored an after school read-in. Students stayed after school and read. Refreshments were served and prizes were awarded for attending. Ms. Ruli passes a box to Alexis Sonnier, Sydney Johnson and Robin Keys to be entered in the prize drawing.
Mandeville Junior High faculty and staff members took an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid course during the week of October 3 - 7. Janice Evans (L), the MJH Athletic Director and instructor for this course, shows Angie Vizzuett, MJH Spanish teacher the proper procedure for CPR.

Cross Stitch Lesson
Mandeville Junior High students in Ms. Lea Laughry's Family and Consumer Science classes learned to cross stitch their choice of a fleu de lis or the school's logo. Pictured left to right are Chloe Batiquin, Brianna Dobson and Christian Hansen.

Joshua Tubbs and Jon Lavergne, of Mandeville Junior High, launch their skimmers across the cafeteria floor to test the integrity of the self made skimmers while Wesley Howell, Diego Armendariz, and TJ Guy look on. Using sketches and dimensions following engineering standards, the students had to create a working model of the skimmers. Skimmers that had been measured appropriately, cut in a straight manner, and used glue sparingly did tend to go further. The students are enrolled in the Gateway to Technology elective taught by Mrs. Tracey Martinez.

Mandeville Junior High's Patriot Buddies received a visit from the Mobile Education Unit. Honor Choir Auditions
Mandeville Junior High students auditioned for District IX Honor Choir on Sat. Oct. 22nd at Fontainebleau Jr. High School. Kaitlyn DeJean, Sofia Oprea, and Morgan Tiller will be in the Honor Choir. The Honor Choir will perform in January, 2012, at Ponchatoula High School. The Mandeville Jr. High Choir is under the direction of Mrs. Cindy Olivier

Mandeville Junior High's Builders Club Officers are Lizzie Taylor, Assistant to the Officers, Alyss Hooper, Treasurer, Kyle Lockhart, President, Sadie Johnson, Secretary, and Emma Knight, Vice President. Builders Club is a service oriented organization that is sponsored by Mrs. Barbara Liddell.
Mandeville Junior High teachers learned how to create bowls from clay using the "pinch" method at a recent professional development after school. Students from the art club assisted the teachers. The materials were purchased using funds from the Brown Foundation Grant and the completed bowls will be donated to the Fill the Bowl/ Empty the Bowl charity event. Honor Roll Breakfast
Mandeville Junior High held the Honor Roll Breakfast for the first nine week grading period on October 26, 2011. Measuring the Table
Mandeville Junior High students (left to right) Maghee McMullen and Ryker Rowe use an early measurement system known as palm to measure the width of the lab table. After all students measured items in the lab using a variety of irregular, nonstandard units, the students discussed the need for a standard system that was accurate for all. This lesson is an introduction to the History of Measurement for the students in the new Gateway to Technology course that is offered as an elective at MJH. The course is taught by Mrs. Tracey Martinez.
Creating a Business
Mandeville Junior High students in Ms. Christine Whan's Louisiana History class learned about economics by creating a business. The 8th grade students created a business that sold either a good or a service,then advertised and presented their business to the class. Mandeville Junior High teachers worked together to create teacher Websites during a professional development day held at the school. 8th Grade Crawfish Boil
Mandeville Junior High recently held its annual end of the year 8th Grade Crawfish Boil. Students participated in field activities and games, enjoyed crawfish, received awards, and ended the festivities with a dance. The event is organized by 8th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Tracey Martinez.
