District Attorney Presents Awards to Students

St. Tammany District Attorney Warren Montgomery presented two of Madisonville Jr. High’s students with the “Warren Montgomery Outstanding Leadership Award” at MJH’s awards ceremony. Students chosen for this award are ones who lead by example, has a positive influence on others, and is considered to be an outstanding citizen.

"No One Stands Alone"

As part of Madisonville Jr. High’s PBIS Program, the administration presented every student, teacher/staff member, cafeteria worker, custodian, and office staff with a “No One Stands Alone” t-shirt. To show their unified support, the entire school body wore their florescent green t-shirts on the same day. Students and staff members are encouraged to wear their t-shirts every Friday.

ATC Agents Hold Assembly

Agents from Alcohol and Tobacco Control held an assembly for the students at Madisonville Jr. High. Accompanying them was Lacy, a five year old black lab who has been working in law enforcement for four years. Lacy, who has been with ATC for close to a year, is trained to search and locate alcohol, tobacco, gun powder, and narcotics, including synthetic marijuana.

Madisonville Jr. Recognized as an "A" School

Madisonville Jr. High has been recognized for earning a grade of “A” for the Louisiana State’s School Performance Score for the first time ever.  Every year the state releases a grade based off of each school’s standardized test scores. The “A” grade is for the 2013-14 school year.

Students Win Awards at Three Rivers Art Festival

Students from Mrs. Thurlow's Talented Art class at Madisonville Jr. High won awards at the Three Rivers Art Festival Student Show. Holly Moisant won 3rd place in 7th grade division for two-dimensional artwork. Hailey Carbo placed 1st and Maggie Borstel placed 2nd in 7th grade division for three- dimensional artwork. Students Place Flags in Remembrance of Veterans

Students from Marie Pennington's class at Madisonville Jr. High were invited by the Madisonville Cemetery Board to place flags on the graves of the Veterans in remembrance of Veteran's Day. Students placed a total of 85 flags on the graves of WWI, WWII, Korea, & Vietnam Veterans. The flags were donated by Pennington's Hardware of Madisonville. Celebrating Veteran's Day

Madisonville Jr. High celebrated Veteran’s Day with a fitting tribute to the US Military and first responders. Students and staff invited family members and friends who have served our country to participate in the program. The performance was organized by choir teacher, Becky Mclain. Clean Up Day

Madisonville Junior High School's administration, faculty, custodians, students, and parents got their "hands dirty for a great cause". Due to a grant received from Lowe's, MJH received over $2,000.00 worth of plants, soil, irrigation materials, and portable fencing. Students Win Awards for Artwork

 Grace Traina and Holly Moisant of Madisonville Jr. High won Honorable Mention for their entries in the Louisiana Wildfowl Festival Student Art Competition held at the Castine Center in Mandeville. Mrs. Lynda Thurlow, talented art teacher, submitted the students' art work which utilized colored pencils or watercolor paint to depict a Louisiana bird. First Nine Weeks Eagle Bucks

Students at Madisonville Jr. High traded in their “Eagle Bucks” for prizes during the end of first nine weeks assembly. Eagle Bucks, part of MJH’s PBIS program, are given to students who exhibit positive behavior.

Show Choir Performs at School Board Meeting

 A small ensemble from Madisonville Jr. High’s Show Choir, under the direction of chorus teacher Becky Mclain, was invited to sing at the St. Tammany Parish School Board’s September meeting.

 Madisonville Jr. High honored their "Golden Students" with a reception and pizza party for the students and their parents/guardians. Teachers select two students each month that reflect MJH Eagle’s Who S.O.A.R.( Safe, Organized, Always Kind, and Respectful).

Patriots Day Lunch

In honor of Patriot’s Day, Madisonville Jr. High hosted a luncheon for first responders in the community. The attendees were presented with student letters and poems thanking them for their service. September Eagle Dads Meeting

 Kyle Catalano, President and Founder of “The Tchefuncte River Foundation” was the guest speaker at Madisonville Jr. High’s September Eagle Dads meeting. Mr. Catalano spoke to the group about the goals of the River Foundation and the fundraisers that the foundation has held, and plans to hold, to raise funds.

Michelle Dufrene, sixth grade social studies teacher, was voted Madisonville Jr. High's Teacher of the Year for 2014-15 school year. Ms. Dufrene has been an educator for four years.
