Career Day

Madisonville Jr. High held its annual Career Day in April. Professionals from around the area addressed the students and shared background information, education, professional experience, job description, as well as examples of a typical day in the profession.

Recycled Fashion Show

Belinda Breaux’s Consumer Science classes showed off the latest trend in fashion apparel during the annual “Recycled Fashion Show” at Madisonville Jr. High. The students designed, assembled, and modeled their original creations made entirely of recycled materials.

United Way Honors

l

Jennifer Ostendorf, a teacher at Madisonville Jr. High, was recently presented with “The Superintendent's Award for Outstanding School In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the United Way”. Mrs. Ostendorf was in charge of the United Way campaign at MJH which raised the most money throughout the St. Tammany Parish School District at the middle/junior high level. Frigid Fun Run

l

Despite the frigid temperatures, Madisonville Jr. High's  PTA held its annual "Fun Run." The "Fun Run" is one of the PTA's biggest fundraiser. Any money raised by the PTA is given back to the school in the form of teacher grants, which in turn, benefits the students. Fund-raiser Volleyball Game

Madisonville Jr. High’s faculty challenged the Lady Eagles to a volleyball game to raise money for MJH’s Athletic Department. The girls’ volleyball team defeated the faculty, but the event raised over $450.

Golden Student Reception

Madisonville Jr. High honored their October "Golden Students" with a reception and pizza party for the students and their parents/guardians. Teachers select two students each month that reflect MJH “Eagle’s Who S.O.A.R.” (Safe, Organized, Always Kind, and Respectful).

Raffle Sales

Madisonville Jr. High's PTA raised over $9000 in their first big fundraiser of the year: the "Spring Break Getaway" raffle. The grand prize was a weeks stay at a  luxurious beachfront condo in Destin. Cole Honeycutt, a seventh grader at Madisonville Jr. High, sold the winning ticket to his mom, Sheri Honeycutt.  This will be the first vacation enjoyed by the family in a while, as Cole’s dad, Ryan Honeycutt, has been deployed in Iraq for the past year. The money raised from the PTA raffle will be used for technology at MJH.

NFL Fuel Up to Play

To promote the “NFL Fuel Up to Play” breakfast competition the cow from the Hwy 21 Chic-fil-Lay in Covington paid a visit to Madisonville Jr. High. MJH won the state-wide competition last year. In addition to winning a $2000 smoothie machine, the school was visited by Saints player Lance Moore who addressed the entire student body on the importance of leading a healthy life.

Louisiana State Trooper Officer Mario Young, a spokesperson from Crimestoppers, addressed the Madisonville Jr. High student body on drug awareness and cyber-bullying.

 

 

 

Egret Drawing

l

Jace Noble, a seventh grader at Madisonville Jr. High, received an Honorable Mention for his pencil drawing of a Louisiana Egret at the Louisiana Wildfowl Carvers and Collectors Guild 2013 Student Art Competition.  His work was shown at the Castine Center in Mandeville during the event. Parish Fair Appearance

The Eaglettes Dance Team made a special appearance at the St. Tammany
Parish Fair on Friday, October 4.

Patriots Day First Responders

Madisonville Jr. High honored local First Responders with a luncheon to celebrate Patriot’s Day. Members from the Madisonville Police Department, St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District #2 in Madisonville, and St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District #13 in Goodbee, were presented notes from the students thanking them for service. Performs at Ceremony

The Madisonville Junior High Show Choir, under the direction of Teacher Becky McLain, sang the National Anthem during ribbon-cutting ceremonies September 5 at the new Madisonville branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library System.

 



Under the direction of Teacher Becky McLain, the group sang the National Anthem just prior to the gala ribbon-cutting opening the large library building which faces the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum. Speakers at the event include Parish President Pat Brister. Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III, School Board President Elizabeth Heintz, and Madisonville Jr. High Principal Dwayne Kern also attended the special occasion. “Good, better, best…. Never rest until your good becomes better and your better is the best” is Madisonville Jr. High’s back-to–school slogan. The bright,  orange t-shirts were worn by teachers, staff support, administration, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers on the first day of school.

Fire Department Captain Speaks To Faculty

Captain Daniel Schmolke, Madisonville Fire Department, was the guest speaker at one of Madisonville Jr. High’s professional development days.
