Violin Performance

iPad Minis Purchased Through Grant

Mrs. Sarabeth Accardo's first grade class at Lyon Elementary School poses with two iPad minis and cases that were purchased through a Donor’s Choose grant, which was fully funded in February.  The iPads are used to enhance learning in the classroom.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Ms. Feast, Mrs. Long and Mrs. O'Berry's 1st Grade classes collaborated for a fun-filled activity. March is a great month for utilizing teachable moments. We recently celebrated Dr. Seuss' Birthday and St. Patrick's Day. Green Eggs and Ham was the perfect culminating activity. We discussed the life and legacy of Dr. Seuss and read some of his most popular stories... we then closed the activity by tasting Green eggs and Ham!

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

The students in Ms Feast' class set a trap in hopes to catch a leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day. He proved to be a little too clever. He left them a treat and a set of fun St. Patrick's Day themed activities to complete.

Working Together

Brooke Durnin, Mitchell Camacho, Connor Lacassagne, and Madison Boell in Mrs. Hardee's third grade class work together on National Inspirer, an interactive social studies computer program that integrates geography, map skills, math skills, problem-solving, and team-building.

Teachers Honor Paraprofessionals with Festive Luncheon

Teachers at Lyon Elementary School honored the paraprofessionals with a festive luncheon in December.  Pictured are Vanessa Brown, Charlene Taylor, Jennifer Normand, Misty Spell, Linda Fangue, Monica Tisdale, Stacey Rome, Nikki Meyers, and Monica Ernest.  They were also given gift cards to a local coffee shop as a way to say "thanks for all that you do to complete our classrooms!"

Chorus Holiday Program

Lyon Elementary School Chorus put on a beautiful holiday program for their families and friends. 

Lyon's 50th Birthday Celebration

It was a 50th Birthday Celebration at Lyon Elementary today complete with cake, balloons and the singing of “Happy Birthday” by third grade chorus students.

Lyon Elementary third grader Ava Vashko welcomed everyone before Jeanine Barnes, current Lyon Elementary Principal, acknowledged many distinguished guests in attendance which included Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, School Board Members, former administrators and teachers, Covington Mayor Mike Cooper and Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz.

Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III said many people have called Lyon Elementary a hidden gem in a tight-knit community, and that “For 50 years Lyon Elementary has served the Covington community and through those generations many, many awesome teachers have paved the way and laid the groundwork for thousands upon thousands of students who have walked these halls. If you asked me to talk about a school that meets the needs of every child every day, Lyon would certainly be one at the top of my list.”

Following Superintendent Folse’s remarks, Covington Mayor Mike Cooper read a proclamation recognizing Lyon Elementary’s 50th birthday. Third grade students Ryan Anderson, Conner Fontenot, Abbie Fraychineaud, Manu Olivos, Meredith Starnes and Ava Vashko then came up to the podium one by one to read the history of Lyon Elementary School starting when the school was built in 1964 and was named in honor of educator and civic leader Elmer E. Lyon

Lyon Elementary School Kindergarteners Skye Kirn, Jeanne Hilleren, Stephen Debusschere, Jazmyne Cavanaugh, Airic Mothershead, Peter Martin, and Maliah Martin take a break from working on their computer educational programs in the computer lab.

S.O.A.R. Mentor Brings Celebratory Cake

Lyon Elementary School S.O.A.R. mentor Peter Barsczeski with Northshore Kiwanis brought the children a celebratory cake commemorating the 50th Birthday of Lyon Elementary School. Reading Practice

Caden Lagarrigue and Priscilla Nelson in Claire Sharp's first grade class practice their reading each day in a small group with the teacher. 

St. Paul's Student Volunteers Work with Students

St. Paul’s student, Daniel DiPol, works on a reading computer program with Jaxon Perkins, a kindergartener at Lyon Elementary School.  Every day, 25 students from St. Paul’s High School volunteer at Lyon in Pre-K-3rd grade classes. 

SOAR Program

Peter Barsczeski, a volunteer with Lyon Elementary School’s SOAR program, works with 3rd grader, Angelina Hallner.  The SOAR program, Student Opportunity for Advanced Reading, is a new program that works with students to enrich their learning and accelerate their potential.

"Must Do" Activities

During the class Reading "must do" activities, Transitional First Grade students Cassady Morse and Emma Turco are reading a passage and answering text dependent questions.
