Emma Wagner from Mrs. Sabrina Parish’s Kindergarten class at Little Pearl Elementary won 2nd Place for her School Lunch Week Nutrition Poster as well as a Participation Award for the Louisiana School Lunch Week Mascot Contest.

 

Lunch Week Mascot

Cole Wells, from Mrs. Diane Wells’ Kindergarten class at Little Pearl Elementary, won third place in the mascot contest during Louisiana School Lunch week.

 

Fish Made of Produce

Beau Dakin, from Mrs. Michelle Durheim’s Pre-Kindergarten class at Little Pearl Elementary, proudly displays his first place ribbon, and bag of goodies which he won because he created a fish using produce that grows in Louisiana as part of their Louisiana School lunches week celebration.

100th Day of School

100 Year Olds

Fall Garden Planted

Mrs. Cathy Nichols, cafeteria manager at Little Pearl Elementary, and Little Pearl’s Kindergarten Nutritional Advisory Council (NAC) student members planted a fall garden in October.  They planted broccoli, green cabbage, parsley and cauliflower.  The NAC group harvested the broccoli in January.  All of the other vegetables are growing nicely.

The Little Pearl Nutritional Advisory Council members are:  Isabella Matranga, Brooklyn Merritt, Isabella Rougeau, Christopher Sims, and Dalton Tullier.

 

Lincoln Log Building

Logan Gillikin and Beau Dakin, students in Mrs. Michelle Durheim’s prekindergarten class, build homes out of Lincoln Logs during our Nursery Rhymes unit.

 

Students Study Dr. King

Peyton Ring and Chasey Smith, Jr., students in Michelle Durheim’s Pre-K class at Little Pearl Elementary, read the book that the class made regarding Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream.

Weather Experiments

Little Pearl Elementary Pre-K students Jeremy Langdon and Matthew Skinner from Mrs. Ann Ledbetter-Boushie’s class experiment with wind during the classes study of weather.

Little Pearl Elementary Pre-K student, Cayden Motte, pricks a cloud during the classes study of weather.  Pricking helps to develop fine motor skills in young children.  The students are from Mrs. Ann Ledbetter-Boushie’s class.

Little Pearl Elementary Pre-K student, Wyatt Salts, develops a way to make a car move using wind.  The students were given small cars, popsicle sticks, rectangles of construction paper, and some play-doh.  They were asked to experiment with the items to find a way to make the car move without touching it.  The class was studying wind during their weather unit.  This student is from Mrs. Ann Ledbetter-Boushie’s class.

Firefighting Book

District 12 Covington firefighter, Dennis Boushie, Jr., reads a book about firefighters to the students in Mrs. Boushie's pre-kindergraten class of Little Pearl Elementary School.  The students were studying Community Helpers.

Community Helpers

PTA Membership 100%

Little Pearl Elementary School in Pearl River received a very special award recently from the Louisiana State PTA for having one hundred percent membership, which means that there is a PTA member for every student at that school. Pictured with the award certificate from left to right are Little Pearl PTA Membership Chair Celia Drury, Supervisor Margaret Sharpe who announced the award at the November 8 School Board meeting, and Principal Dr. April Whitfield.

Health and Safety Month

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department set up a rotation of stations at Little Pearl Elementary, in Pearl River, LA, to show some of the different vehicles and tools used to help serve the residents of St. Tammany Parish.

The students of Little Pearl Elementary learn about Jezabelle, the search and rescue dog.

Stop in the name of the law

The Little Pearl students learn about water safety and how officers use boats to rescue those in need.

Drug Free Pledge

Mrs. Wells, Mrs. Mesman, and Ms. Verdun along with the children at Little Pearl Elementary, await the launching of red balloons to commemorate the end of Red Ribbon Week.

Safety Lesson

The students at Little Pearl Elementary learn about safety.  The children learned about seatbelt usage, bike helmet usage, and staying near parents when in the community.

Food Stuff

 

Sophi Rizzuto makes apple prints using real apples during a study of the letter A sound.  She is in Mrs.  Boushie's pre-kindegarten class at Little Pearl Elementary.

Matthew Skinner scrubs the coke off of a hard boiled egg with a toothbrush and toothpaste.  The students were learning healthy habits and the effects of soft drinks on your teeth.  He is in Mrs.  Boushie's class at Little Pearl Elementary.

Aleigh Jean "reads" her pattern kabob before she eats it.  The students were practicing creating A/B patterns, as well as making a healthy snack.  She is in Mrs.  Boushie's pre-kindergarten class at Little Pearl Elementary.
