PBS Field Trip

Second grade students in Mrs. Jennifer Beason’s class at Lee Road Junior High School took a field trip to the Lee Road Public library for story time as part of Lee Road School’s PBS incentive program.

Louisiana Day

On April 27, Lee Road Junior High celebrated the variety of foods, history, and cultural arts enjoyed throughout Louisiana. Special programs spotlighted fish and wildlife native to Louisiana, music and culture, culinary delights, and outdoor demonstrations.

A large number of exhibits were on display.

A special lunch was enjoyed by the students.

Louisiana State Police gave safety demonstrations.

Petting an alligator was one option.

School Board President Jack Loup was one of the many visitors.

Picture frames adorned with red beans and rice was a hit.

Special guests included, from left, School Board President Jack "Coach" Loup, Richard Tanner, Superintendent W. L. "Trey" Folse, III, School Board member Beth Heintz, and St. Tammany Parish President Patricia Brister.

Mayor Mike Cooper of Covington gave a talk on area history.

Dental Health Month

Dr. Seuss Birthday

Students at Lee Road Junior High School celebrated Dr. Seuss's 108th Birthday by having guest reader, Lisa Haley, read Green Eggs and Ham. Lisa is the Librarian at the Lee Road Branch Library. Students enjoying the story are: Caroline Frederick, Grace Savarese, Bryce Blackwell and Sarah Beth Byrd.

Hats for George

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Denise Bischoff’s class at Lee Road Junior High School  celebrated President's Day by making George Washington hats.  The children read stories about George Washington and also discussed the "fashion" of that time period - powdered wigs and three-cornered hats.

Students of the Year

A school committee interviewed all candidates and selected Kenzie Dawsey (8th grade) and Katie Bridges(5th grade) as Lee Road Junior High School’s “Students of the Year”. To be eligible for consideration , you must have at least a 3.5 GPA. Other considerations in making the decision are community and extracurricular involvement, leadership skills, citizenship, character, and spontaneous writing ability.

Teacher of the Year

Lee Road Junior High School’s faculty and staff recognizes their 2012-2013 “Teacher of the Year,”  Mrs. Lauren Happel, at the January faculty meeting.

 

Lunch With Principal

As part of Lee Road School’s Positive Behavior Support program two second grade students, Patience Jenkins and Isabel Glynn, have lunch with Principal Anna Bowie.

Special Visitor

Mrs. Emmie Lou Wanner's Pre-K Class at Lee Road Junior High School  had a special visitor for Sharetime. Tristan Williams brought his Paw-Paw Lt. Mike Revere of the Covington Police Department for the Letter "P" sharetime.  Lt. Revere, paw-paw and policeman brought the children pencils and answered many questions.

Christmas Around The World


Students in Mrs. Susan Flockton’s 5th and 6th grade Gifted ELA class at Lee Road Junior High School celebrated “Christmas Around the World” with a feast featuring foods from other cultures. The ladies from Lee Road Pentecostal Church overwhelmed the staff at Lee Road Junior High School with lunch and lots of chocolate as part of their Christmas tradition. Ultrasound Machine

Dr. Morgan Burger, from Hillside Animal Hospital, came to Ms. Kim Keller's 5th grade class at Lee Road School with Cooper the Dog to show the students how an ultrasound machine can show the working organs of a dog.  The class is studying organ systems in science. How Organs Work

Lesson Plans Online

Two teachers from Lee Road Junior High School are being featured on a Teaching Channel lesson plan video, both on the internet and television. Principal Anna Bowie was recently informed that a lesson plan idea developed by Angela Montgomery, left, and Stacey Hoover, right, has been added to the video offerings on TeachingChannel.org, a national non-profit organization that showcases videos on effective teaching practices and great Common Core lesson. Ms. Montgomery and Ms. Hoover star in a video entitled “Monster Match.” A Teaching Channel spokesman congratulated Ms. Montgomery and Ms. Hoover for their accomplishment. “We hope Teaching Channel can help you in celebrating and promoting great teaching in your district,” he said.

White House Visit

Mrs. Anna Bowie, Principal and Mrs. Donna Malbrough, cafeteria manager from Lee Road Junior High School, traveled to Washington, DC recently with Superintendent Trey Folse, Assistant Superintendent William Brady, and representatives of 25 other St. Tammany Parish public schools which had won the US Healthier Schools Gold Award with Distinction. They were invited by First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama to a reception in their honor on the White House lawn.

FFA Chapter Recognized

The Lee Road FFA chapter was recognized during a recent St Tammany Parish School Board meeting for their outstanding achievements that was awarded at the Louisiana Association of FFA’s biggest event of the year—the 82nd State Convention. This year’s convention theme, "Infinite Potential" inspired FFA members to realize their endless opportunities for success and the multitude of talents and skills that each possess to make themselves, their chapters, and their communities stronger. Sharing Poetry

Kindergarteners in Mrs. Karen Dirmann's class at Lee Road Jr. High recently participated in a poetry sharing activity through video conferencing with a kindergarten class in Virginia. The kindergarteners from Louisiana and Virgina enjoyed the activity and they plan to video conference on a monthly basis. FFA Leadership

Members of the Lee Road Junior High School FFA chapter attended the Louisiana FFA Junior High Leadership Workshop.  Members of the state FFA officer team conducted the workshop were junior high FFA members worked on their leadership skills and character development. Second grade students in Mrs. Vicki fussell’s class at Lee Road Junior High School practice related facts by making “Edible Dominos . They used graham crackers, icing and M&M’s.
