Large Family Gathering

Eighth grade students in Mrs. Watkins’ Art II class at Fontainebleau Jr. High used proportional enlargement to create a large version of Harriet Blum’s hand-tinted “Family Gathering.” Each student received a rectangle that was 1/16 of the total picture and used diagonal lines to grid and enlarge their segment. Then they used acrylic paint (just the primary colors, black, and white) to match the colors and the values. Harriet Blum is a well-renowned photographer from St. Tammany Parish and graciously gave permission for the students to use her photograph. This piece will be on display at Covington Massage and Wellness for the Spring for Art on Saturday, April 20th, in downtown Covington. Pictured with the painting are (front row) Cali Navarro, Meghan Mistric, Regan Pratt, Hailey Campo, and Kristen Boese; (middle row) Lily Cosentino, Caleigh Plauche’, Madison Brown, and Gillian Smith; (back row) Joe Richarson, Cameron Guzzardo, Maddi Cerise, Elizabeth Carrone, and Mrs. Adair Watkins.
