8th Grade Student of the Year

Folsom Jr. High's 8th grade Student-of-the-Year is Kaitlyn Walker, daughter of Tony and Quint Walker of Folsom.  Kaitlyn is an outstanding student academically and athletically.  She is a member of the school's honor society and yearbook staff.  She also plays volleyball, basketball, and softball.

Division III Track Meet MVP's

During the recent Division III Track Meet at Covington High School, MVP's were awarded to both boys and girls in track and field events.  Joy Conlin, Fifth Ward Jr. High, received MVP for Field Events & Kameshia McDowell, Folsom Jr. High, received MVP for Track Events. Saylem McDow, Folsom Jr. High, received MVP for Field Events & Reggie Gause, Folsom Jr. High, received MVP for Track Events.

Folsom Jr. High's Students-of-the-Month for December were Oscar Jimenez, Reyes Isham, & Myah Kinler.  Hawk Hero for the month of December was Jasmine Brown, who is pictured with Principal, Sharon Garrett.

Hawk Heroes & Students of the Month

Folsom Jr. High's Students-of-the-Month and Hawk Heroes for November were recently recognized during morning assembly.  Students-of-the-Month are Ivy Mendheim, Kameshia McDowell, and Meghan Romano.  Hawk Heroes for November are Kobe Hollins and Gavin Crain.

Celebrating Red Ribbon Week

To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Folsom Jr. High's Student Council (sponsored by Diedre Perkins and Taura Blanc) held daily activities and contests to encourage students to live a drug free life.  As part of the "Love Yourself, Be Drug Free" theme, students and staff wore crazy socks on Monday for "Sock it to Drugs" day.  On Tuesday, students and staff  had crazy hair for "Hairs to a Drug Free Life."  For Wednesday, students and staff were encouraged to wear sports attire as part of "Team Up Against Drugs."  On Thursday, students and staff members wore hippie accessories for "Peace, Love, and Drug Free Happiness."  On Friday, hats were worn for "Hats off to No Drugs."

1st Nine Weeks Honor Roll Breakfast

Celebrating National School Lunch Week

Folsom Jr. High celebrated National School Lunch Week with a guest speaker, visitors, games, face painting, and writing and art contests. Brittany Bruhl, Saintsation and former Folsom Jr. High student, spoke to the students about the importance of good nutrition then helped give out awards to the essay, poetry, and art contest winners.

Parish Fair Booth Wins 1st Place

Folsom Jr. High's fair booth won a 1st place ribbon and won grand prize overall for the junior high division.

Students with Perfect Attendence Rewarded

Folsom Jr. High rewarded students with perfect attendance during the 1st nine weeks grading period with a breakfast from a local restaurant.

Bracelets to Commemorate September 11th

Folsom Jr. High's eighth graders made bracelets to give to all of the students to commemorate September 11, 2001.  The bracelets were red, white, and blue, with four white beads representing the four planes that went down that day and the many lives lost.  Pictured are students handing out the bracelets after the morning's moment of silence.

New Student Council Members Inducted

Folsom Jr. High's Student Council recently inducted new members, including officers for the 2014-2015 school year.


World School Milk Day

Folsom Jr. High's Cafeteria Staff celebrated World School Milk Day September 24th with a door decorating contest with the Chik-Fil-A cow as the special guest judge and other activities and give-a-ways.

World School Milk Day Classroom Winners

Students Get Lesson in Farming

n Olivia Gosa's 6th grade world history classes, local residents spoke to the students about the responsibilities of living on a farm and the changes in farming over time.

Cafeteria Staff Accepts Ice Bucket Challenge

Folsom Jr. High's cafeteria staff was challenged by Lancaster Elementary's cafeteria to participate in the ALS ice bucket challenge.



Open House Held

Folsom Jr. High held its annual Open House late August to welcome parents and give them a chance to meet their children's teachers.

Five Themes of Geography Lesson

Phyllis Beatty's Louisiana History classes learned about the 5 themes of geography in preparation for understanding Louisiana's geographic features.


New Faculty

Folsom Jr. High is pleased to welcome four new faculty members: Katherine McGraw (art), Bailey Stillwell (choral music), Amy Barrow (assistant principal), and Taura Blanc (English/language arts).



August 2014

First Dance

Folsom Jr. High held its first dance of the school year to welcome the students back.

Meet and Greet

Folsom Jr. High students attended the annual "Meet and Greet" so students could pick up schedules, purchase uniform shirts, find their classes, and practice using their lockers.



First Day of School

Faculty and Staff members wore this year's theme shirt "because I'm HAPPY at FJH," on the first day of school and performed to the song "Happy" for the students during assembly.
