Awards Night

Folsom Jr. High School held its annual 8th Grade Awards Night to honor the 8th grade students and celebrate their transition to high school.  Some of the students were honored with special awards. 

l

Dane Henssler and Julie Babineaux received awards for maintaining 4.0 GPAs during their junior high years. 

l

The District Attorney's Award for Outstanding Leadership went to Gabe Truett.  He is presented the award by a representative of the DA's office.

l

The Alfred Greenwood Award, which is given to the student with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA)., and honors the memory of former FJH Principal Alfred Greenwood, was given to Dane Henssler.  He is presented the award by Principal Sharon Garrett.

l

The Student-of-the-Year Award was presented to Madalyn Jennings.
Marjorie Brown, Folsom Jr. High's band director, presented outstanding 8th grade band members with special awards.  Pictured is Mrs. Brown, Austin Parks, Quan McDowell, Julie Babineaux, Gabe Truett, and Phillip Miller.

District Tournament Champs

l

Folsom Jr. High's Division III Boys' Volleyball Team recently won the district tournament and finished the season undefeated in league and tournament play. All-Sports Banquet

Folsom Jr. High held its annual All-Sports Banquet to honor players and coaches.  All students who participate in sports (football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, track, and cheerleading) and their coaches receive recognition for their hard work during the year.  Special awards are given to 8th grade athletes based upon specific criteria.  The following special awards were given for the 2013-2014 season:

Civil War Re-enactors

l

Max Kline, an 8th grade student at Folsom Jr. High, has participated in Civil War reenactments since he was a young boy.  Max recently shared his knowledge of the Civil War with his classmates in Phyllis Beatty's Louisiana history classes.  He shared artifacts and spoke of his experiences, and the students had fun trying on uniforms and dresses from that era.  Pictured above is Max during his presentation.

Windows 8 Workshop

Black History Month

The theme for Folsom Jr. High's annual Black History Month Program was "One Person Can Make a Difference." The program featured students from all grade levels singing, dancing, performing skits, playing instruments, and presenting information about African-Americans who have made a difference in our nation's history. The student presenters called upon the audience to work toward making a difference themselves. Diedre Perkins's Student Council also presented staff members and students with awards for their roles in the program and in their efforts to make a difference around campus.

Valentine's Day Prize

l

Students who bought yearbooks before Valentine's Day had their names put into a drawing to win a Valentine's Day stuffed animal. Rosi Sandoval was the winner of this year's Valentine's Day prize.

Members of the Deborah Rochelle Grant Committee visited Laura Ragas's science class and Phyllis Beatty's Louisiana history class to see how the students were using the grant money they received at the beginning of the year. Folsom Jr. High held a breakfast to honor students who made honor roll for the 2nd 9 weeks.  The PTA provided donuts, juice, and milk, and parents were invited to attend.

Red Ribbon Week

Folsom Jr. High celebrated Red Ribbon Week (October 28 - November 1) with daily activities sponsored by the Student Council.  Students kicked off the week with a speaker from the Sheriff's Office and participated in a variety of activities every day during lunch.

National School Lunch Week

 

Folsom Jr. High celebrated National School Lunch Week (School Lunch Across the USA) October 14 - 18, 2013, with daily activities during the students' lunch periods. Eighth grade teacher Phyllis Beatty and cafeteria manager Helen Galloway coordinated entertainment for each day.  The students played games, enjoyed face painting, and created artwork while enjoying lunches based upon the 5 different US geographical regions.
