Ribbon Cut For New Facilities

A Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held November 28 to celebrate the completion of several renovations and new buildings on the campus. From left to right are School Board Member Robin Mullett; students Tyreak Chappell and Caroline Fussell; School Board Members Elizabeth Heintz and Michael Dirmann; Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III; Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Cheryl Arabie; Principal Sharon Garrett; Assistant Superintendent Pete Jabbia; student Antonia Divinity; Assistant Superintendent William “Bill” Brady, and student Cody Counts.

Students, faculty, PTA members, and several special guests celebrated Folsom Junior High School’s newly renovated campus Wednesday morning, November 28, holding a ribbon cutting ceremony with several dignitaries on hand, including former Principal Joe Cyprian and former Folsom Mayor Marshell Brumfield.

Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III, cut the ribbon with School Board Members Robin Mullett, Elizabeth Heintz, and Michael Dirmann, Principal Sharon Garrett, and Assistant Superintendents Cheryl Arabie, Pete Jabbia, and William “Bill” Brady.

Students participating in the special program included Chante’ Bartet saying the Pledge of Allegiance, the school chorus singing the National Anthem, and DeJeune’ Richardson giving a performance as one of the school’s early teachers, telling what it was like in the 1930’s and 1940’s and how it has changed.

Principal Garrett outlined the improvements to the campus, from a new administrative office building and cafetorium, to four new classrooms and library, as well as new restrooms. “Our physical campus has grown and has become a symbol of the many innovative and exciting changes that are going on here,” she said. “In the recently released School Performance Scores, we were named one of the most improved junior high schools in the parish for this year and we were also recognized as the most improved junior high since 2008, so we are very proud.”

Superintendent Folse stated “these projects have certainly changed the way Folsom Junior High looks, from the new office to this beautiful new cafetorium.”

“Our School System theme this year is Community Connections, and I believe that Folsom Junior High has really made  those connections. It has hosted special community events, conducted the Giving Tree project at Christmas time, and it has been a school site in this community since 1928,” he said. Folse also thanked the taxpayers for stepping forward even in tough times to provide the funds to build and improve our schools so we can have schools that meet the needs of every child, every day.”

“This school is a great place doing great things,” he concluded.
