Major General Visits
The latest visitor in our Celebrity Readers program was United States Army Major General Peter Lennon, Commander of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, in Virginia. “I was asked to come by and read to the children by one of the teachers here, who is the wife of one of my soldiers,” Major General Lennon said. “I think it’s a great way to reach out to the community and share with the students how important reading is. This is a great stepping stone for the rest of their lives.”
As he walked into the library reading room, all the students stood up and gave him a welcoming salute. He also visited a PEI class to read “How the Camel Got His Hump.”
His Aide de Camp, Lieutenant Christopher Thornhill, who works with the 377 TSC at the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse, also read a book to a class. He said the kids were smart and attentive. “They asked really good questions,” he commented.

The day before the beginning of the 2013 Spring/Easter break was one of fun activities. Pictured here are a group of Cypress Cove students as they participate in the Easter Hat Walk, a parade showcasing the many colorful and inventive Easter-decorated hats worn by the children. Several Easter Hat Walks were conducted for different groups of students, and hundreds of parents turned out for the occasion to join in the fun.
