Keep Louisiana Beautiful Award

Clearwood Junior High recently received a check for $500, the result of a Youth Leadership Award being given by Keep Louisiana Beautiful to Rebecca Warren, an 8th grade student. She was commended for writing and performing a song promoting the idea of reducing waste by reusing and recycling things that would be thrown away. The “Cup Song" was performed at several schools in the Slidell area earlier this year. She is a member of the Clearwood Green Team performers and is planning to become a professional musician.

The big check shown being held by Miss Warren was presented at the 2013 Keep Louisiana Beautiful conference in Baton Rouge last month when she was honored at a luncheon in the Old Governor’s Mansion. She was nominated for the award by the Keep Slidell Beautiful organization.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. is the state’s anti-litter and community improvement organization focused on education, enforcement, awareness and cleanups. Affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, the group's mission is to “promote personal, corporate and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana.”

Teachers Prepare for Classes

The Clearwood Junior High faculty spent some time working on developing their communication skills during their professional development time. The exercise challenged the teachers to communicate with each other without the use of all of their senses. The focus of the activity was on developing clear meaningful communication with all the school's stakeholders.
