Smart Bodies Body Walk
Alton Elementary students recently had the Smart Bodies Body Walk Exhibit visit the school. Smart Bodies is an interactive educational program designed to prevent childhood obesity. A joint initiative of the LSU AgCenter and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, Smart Bodies integrates classroom activities with hands-on learning to teach children how to build strong bodies and develop active minds.

Marvin Bennett explains the function of the lungs to students. Mr. Bennett is affiliated with Louisiana Bluechips Hoops and serves as a mentor at Alton Elementary.
Students of the Month
Alton Elementary recently honored their March Students of the Month. Students were selected at each grade level for leadership, good behavior, and random acts of kindness.

Student of the Year

Ashanti Bester is Alton Elementary's 2012-2013 Student of the Year. Ashanti was selected based on her outstanding academic record, citizenship, and involvement in school activities.

Caps for Kids

Alton Elementary students and faculty wore their favorite caps to school on Friday, January 25, in return for a donation of a dollar or more to the "Caps for Kids" program.

Caps for Kids is a national non-profit organization based in New Orleans that provides celebrity-autographed caps for kids with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer. The children designate which celebrity they would like to have autograph their caps, and it helps them get through the challenges they face during treatment.

Fathers Gather
Alton Elementary invited fathers, grandfathers and male guardians to come spend the morning with their daughters. Guest speakers were Marvin Bennet, Jim Courville, and Freddie Johnson, Jr. They talked to the men about how important it is for them to be involved in their child's education. They enjoyed doughnuts and did an activity together.

Christmas Program
The Alton Elementary chorus and music classes performed for students and parents before the Christmas holidays. Each class performed a selection.










Literacy Night
Alton Elementary held their Literacy Night before the winter holidays. Parents and students participated in Reindeer Reading Games.

Dictionaries Presented
The Rotary Club of Slidell presented dictionaries to the third grade students at Alton Elemetary. The students were thrilled to receive their own personal dictionary to use both at school and at home.

Alton Elementary invited grandparents and special guests to a special lunch at the school. A photographer was available to take pictures of the special occasion.










September, 2012
Open House Photos
Alton Elementary held their annual Open House on Thursday, August 23rd. Parents and students visited classrooms for a presentation by the teachers on classroom routines and procedures. Teachers also gave parents an overview of the new Common Core Curriculum. At the conclusion of the evening, students, parents, and staff were treated to warm whole wheat oatmeal cookies and water served by the school Nutritional Advisory Committee.













Return to School
Alton Elementary students returned to school for the 2012-2013 school year anxious to meet their teachers, see friends, and tackle the new curriculum.
