Goldfish Club Field Trip

The Principal's Goldfish Club and Nutritional Advisory Council (NAC) this month reached out to Head Start, the East St. Tammany Rainbow Child Care Center, and the office of Mayor Drennan.

The students spent time reading stories to the Pre-Kindergarten students and sharing a donation of books to each student. One boy in particular who, when the story was finished, stood up and extended his hand to shake the hand of Debra H. Davis, Cafeteria Manager, who had coordinated the field trip visit. He introduced himself and said "thank you." He definitely has the potential for being a member of the Goldfish Club!

Warm and cordial as always, Mayor Drennan discussed topics such as the ever important sale tax and the call to public service.

Community Outreach

Another fun event with our students in the Principal's Goldfish Club and Nutrition Advisory Council. Loaded with special parade throws, students learned the most sought after item was simply a hug warmly exchanged with residents of the Greenbriar and Azalea Senior Centers we visited last week. To better understand what happens with the many groceries we collect each Thanksgiving and Christmas, we made a stop at Community Christian Concern, too.

As always after our expeditions, our little fish better understand their community, their part in it's future, and the importance of the St. Tammany Parish school system to learning that lasts a lifetime.

Dance Teams Parade

Abney Elementary dance teams, the Spartanettes and Stompers, recently participated in the Krewe of Slidellians' parade. The dance teams have over 70 students who participate.

Goldfish Club

This is the Principal's Goldfish Club for the 2011-2012 school year. The club is made up of exceptional 3-5 grade students who practice the Fish Philosophy and consistently model good behavior. These students are involved in many community projects such as senior center visits, food collection for needy families and our furry friends, community reading projects and more. The club includes the school's Nutrition Advisory Council students who participate in these things plus nutrition related projects as well. This is their third year banquet (held each January) where new members are given their club shirt and certificate as they place their fish photo in the bowl which is displayed on the dining room wall. They meet at least once a month but students have many ongoing activities such as carline greeters, reading to younger grades and more.

Goldfish Visit Center

Our Goldfish Club recently visited the Abney Elementary Early Childhood Center to read to the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. The Gold Fish Club members were split into teams of 3 each. The picture shows one of the teams reading to a kindergarten class. Each member took a turn reading. The little girl in the wheel chair is a member of the Goldfish Club and the two other Goldfish members held books for her to read to the group. Gold Fish Club members (4th and 5th graders) are role models at our school and are chosen to be in this club because of great academics and behavior and practicing the Fish Philosophy.
