Louisiana VFW Elementary Teacher of the Year

Rebecca Molina, teacher of gifted students at Abita Springs Elementary, has been honored by the Louisiana Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars as their Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

Donation from Hornbeck Offshore

Abita Springs Elementary faculty and staff were excited to receive some really nice rolling chairs and office supplies from Hornbeck Offshore. Hornbeck Offshore employee Cynthia Woods, a parent of 3 Abita Springs Elementary students, presented the donations to Principal Rebecca Stogner.

PTA Reflections Contest

Abita Springs Elementary students Lola Donado, Hali Pfingsten, and Savannah Evans are moving on to the state level PTA Reflections Contest.

Celebrating 100 Days of School

Abita Springs Elementary first grade students celebrated their 100th day of school by dressing as if they were 100 years old.  They also celebrated the day by participating in lots of 100 day activities involving the number 100.

Teachers Receive National Board Certification

Abita Springs Elementary School is proud to announce the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards recertification of two of its teachers, physical education teacher Maria O’Keefe and second grade teacher Janice Perkins. National Board certification is the highest mark of professional accomplishment that an educator can attain. Only three percent of America’s teachers are National Board certified, making it a very respected and prestigious group. NBCTs are recognized across the nation because they have met the most rigorous standards set by the profession, developing and demonstrating the advanced knowledge, skills, and practices required of an outstanding educator.

Students Enjoy Ice Cream for Reaching 100 Compliments

Gifted Teacher Receives VFW Recognition

Abita Springs Elementary Gifted Teacher, Rebecca Molina, was awarded VFW local and district recognition in the VFW's National Citizenship Education Teacher program, which honors teachers who promote citizenship in their classrooms and schools. She will be moving on to state level now.

Dressing up for a Thanksgiving Feast

Students at Abita Springs Elementary could be seen dressed up as Pilgrims and Native Americans on Wednesday as they made their way through the halls with Pilgrim hats and feather headbands.

First graders in Misty Nicholson’s and Aundrea Reidenauer’s classes attended a Thanksgiving Feast where each student told the class what they were thankful for. Parents brought turkey, corn, pumpkin pie and other festive treats for the students to enjoy. An assortment of student projects including placemats with hand prints and poems, fall leaves, and quilts containing everything the students were thankful for, decorated the classroom where the feast was held.

"NAK" Team Presents Check for Students in Need

The "NAK" team at Abita Springs Elementary recently presented a check to Ms. Stogner for $388.15. This money was raised by students during National School Lunch Week to help purchase tennis shoes for students in need at Abita Elementary. Pictured are Kaden Michel , Reed Bond, and Shannon Wood.

Community Outreach Project

First graders at Abita Springs Elementary participated in a community outreach project. Mrs. Guillot and Mrs. Turnage’s classes worked together making a large pink ribbon in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It will be placed at Lakeview Women’s Center during the month of October. Students Enjoy Pajama Day

Marissa Taylor, Julianna Wilkinson, Shelby Watson, Jackson Anglin enjoy their special day in Pajamas for support of the United Way drive.

Caring Service Project

Abita Spring’s Elementary’s word for the week was caring and their principal challenged each class to do a service project.  Mrs. Michel’s 3rd grade class chose to sell pickles at recess to all third grade classes to raise money for a child who will soon go through a bone marrow transplant.
