How do you spell 'exceptional spellers'? Simple: S-T-P-P-S P-R-O-U-D

Shortly before the Thanksgiving break, students from Boyet Junior and Clearwood Junior High participated in spelling bees sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell. This is the sixth consecutive year that the Junior Auxiliary has hosted a parish-level competition for junior high students.

By correctly spelling the word 'juxtapose', Lily Johnson won the Boyet Junior High Spelling Bee on November 13. On the following day, Tiara Torregano spelled 'cardigan' correctly to win the Clearwood Junior High Spelling Bee.

Lily and Tiara will be joined by their fellow finalists from their school at the 2019 New Orleans Regional Spelling Bee which will be held March 2019 at Xavier University. The Regional Bee is co-sponsored by The Times-Picayune and the LINKS Service Organization.

The regional winner from Xavier and a parent will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in Washington, D.C.
