Eclipse 'Once-in-a-Lifetime' Learning Experience

STPPS teachers used Monday’s solar eclipse as a teachable moment in many classes across the district.

While Louisiana was not in the path of totality, St. Tammany Parish residents experienced 75 percent coverage of the solar eclipse.

Monday’s rare event was the first total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States since February 26, 1979. The next total solar eclipse is expected to occur again on April 8, 2024.

Following plans put in place to provide students with a safe learning experience, students were safely able to experience the eclipse using a variety of resources provided by NASA. One of those schools was Little Oak Middle where students were able to experience the eclipse thanks to glasses donated by NASA's Stennis Space Center.
