Mandeville Grad Named National Merit Scholarship Winner
(05-12-2017)

Mandeville High graduate Amin Izadpanah was named a National Merit $2500 Scholarship winner by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Izadpanah was one of 2,500 Merit Scholar designees chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Izadpanah plans to attend Tulane University where he will major in cell and molecular biology. He received the Presidential Scholarship from Tulane. During his time at Mandeville High, he was president of the National Honor Society, and was the president and founder of the Science Journal Club. He was the overall State Literary Rally winner in Calculus II as a senior in April and was also the overall winner in Biology II as a sophomore.

He was one of 15 National Merit Finalists for STPPS. All 15 Finalists were recognized at the May 11 Committee As A Whole Meeting at the C.J. Schoen Administrative Building.

2017 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
This year’s National Merit Scholarship Program began in October 2015 when over 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Last fall, the highest-scoring participants in each state, representing less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors, were named Semifinalists on a state representational basis. Only these 16,000 Semifinalists had an opportunity to continue in the competition.
