Woodlake Teacher Receives Teaching it Forward Scholarship
Woodlake Elementary teacher Kelly Stomps was speaking to students about “paying it forward” when she surprised fellow teacher Susan Coffey with a full tuition scholarship through the Teaching it Forward scholarship program.

As State Teacher of the Year, Kelly Stomps is able to nominate one teacher to receive a scholarship to the University of Phoenix in order to pursue a master’s degree in education.

Mrs. Coffey, who has been a teacher at Woodlake for ten years, was overcome with emotion as she accepted the scholarship in front of the student body.

“I am so grateful to Ms. Stomps and the University of Phoenix for this wonderful blessing.  I cannot thank them enough. Getting my Masters has been a dream of mine. I try to encourage my own children and my students to work hard to achieve their goals and dreams. Now because of this wonderful gift, I can show them that hard work pays off and dreams come true,” said Coffey.

Mrs. Coffey decided to follow her passion for teaching while her daughters were attending Woodlake. She currently teaches second grade and was selected to serve as a teacher leader at Woodlake.
