 The St. Tammany Parish School Board recognized the outstanding accomplishments of the Northshore High School Girls Soccer Team between 1986 and 1990 in a special presentation during the July Board meeting. Several members of the Northshore High School Girls Soccer Team were present as Parish Athletic Director Larry Favre and Channel 13 Multimedia Specialist Charles “Tiger” Edwards told of the team winning five state championships in a row shortly after girls soccer was sanctioned by the Louisiana High School Athletics Association. From left to right are Gretchen Guidry Thomas; Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III; Michelle Ortner; Coach James Scott; Shannon Gipson; Meme Soho Leonard; Kathi Easter Nelms; and Corrine Blakeman Aertker. Their team achieved a 75 game winning streak in the late 1980’s as well as the five state championships. Ms. Leonard is currently a resource helping teacher at Whispering Forest Elementary, Ms. Gipson is a teacher at Mandeville Elementary, and Ms. Aertker is a teacher at Cypress Cove Elementary.
