Civic and business leaders from Russia learned about the St. Tammany Parish Public School System and its programs and facilities during a recent visit to the Parish. The group was brought to the area by the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council (NOCDC), a non-profit group that hosts foreign visitors brought to the United States by the Open World Program. The program, a project of the U. S. Library of Congress, aims to give young emerging Russian leaders a firsthand look at the U. S. political system, business and community life. Director of Public Information Linda Roan took the group on a tour of the central office after explaining the workings of the public school system, how it is funded and governed by elected representatives of the people. Accompanying the group were Assistant District Attorney Lane Carson and John Exnicious, an attorney and political consultant with the NOCDC. 2007-06-22 13:03:42
