Unit Description This unit will develop enduring understandings
related to character, bravery, and humanity. Students will read a variety of
fiction and non-fiction stories and an historical fiction novel related to
World War II. Students will use class
discussions and comprehension strategies including: identifying the characteristics of
realistic and historical fiction, character, setting, and plot development,
summarizing and paraphrasing, identifying cause and effect, and making
predictions. Vocabulary will be
developed through the use of the dictionary, context clues, and
analogies. Writing instruction will
focus on the writing process, expository writing, research, and journaling. |
