Unit 2: Friendship

Unit Description

In this unit, students will read fiction stories about friendship and nonfiction selections to support comprehension of that genre.  Students will explore making inferences, distinguishing fact from opinion, finding the main idea and supporting details, writing summaries, analyzing cause and effect, as well as responding to writing prompts, completing spelling and grammar exercises, and creating various presentations.  This unit is supported by numerous literary selections from which teachers may choose in order to teach the identified skills and strategies based on students’ needs and time constraints.

·         Friends want each other to succeed.
