Unit 3: Discoveries Time

Unit Description This unit is all about Discoveries. Themes include: Food Around the World,
Solving Riddles, Ecosystems in Balance, Making Journeys, The Art of
Illustrating and an extra week to review and assess. Phonics and/or spelling skills practiced
are /ar/, /ur/, long /u/,
/oo/, /ue/, /oi/. Writing forms
are journal entries, character sketch, persuasive writing, report writing,
dialogue and a scene. The grammar
skill for the units concentrates on action verbs, present tense, past tense,
and future tense verbs, and sentences containing verbs. Mechanics and usage involves commas,
subject-verb agreement, colons in time, and quotation marks. Fluency practice includes exclamatory sentence,
intonation and pauses, punctuation marks and dialogue, and reading pace. |
