Unit Description

The students will investigate friends and being themselves in this unit. Phonics and spelling skills include short vowels and building words. The grammar focus covers statements and questions, commands and exclamations, subjects/predicates, and combining sentences.  The writing mode is personal narrative with practice in using voice and attention to details.  Students will analyze the story structure and summarize.  Other comprehension skills are recognizing character, setting, plot, main ideas/details, and make and confirm predictions.  Fluency is practiced through pronunciation of words, intonation, and paying attention to the tempo.
