Unit Description

Children will learn about themselves, each other, the classroom and school environments, as they become a Kindergarten learning community.  Students will learn about their new environment as they learn daily routines and procedures.  In English/Language Arts, students will explore their own and others’ names as items of importance and as tools for building letter and letter sound recognition and application. Through literature, students will have the opportunity to name their feelings, and explore names of friends, families, classmates, jobs, environmental objects, and parts of a book. Students will be introduced to daily classroom and school routines and schedules, and become accustomed to daily calendar activities.  Students will describe people and places in their school, family; identify home and class rules and responsibilities.
