UPDATE: Thursday, April 2, 2020

School Closure Extension
Governor Edwards ordered an extension to the school closures in our state. As a result, all schools and support facilities will remain closed until at least April 30, 2020.

The closures will continue to affect all schools and support facilities in addition to all athletics, activities, clubs, and events. All employees will remain on call and should follow the direction of their direct supervisor.

“While this closure is important to protect the health and safety of our students and employees, we know it creates many questions and challenges,” said Superintendent Folse. “We will continue to find solutions and provide support in the best interest of our students, families, employees, and community.”

We are following guidance from the State Department of Education on how to move forward following this announcement and how this will affect the remainder of the school year. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Although schools will be closed, our teachers and employees will continue to provide support for families including optional remote learning resources, school information hotlines, STPPS Cares helpline for mental health support, and Grab-and-Go meal distribution.

We will continue to provide updates with information and resources via robocalls, the district website, and district social media channels.

UPDATE: Wednesday, April 1, 2020

We are aware that there was a shortage of the weekly option of the “Grab and Go” meals today. It was the first day this was offered and the demand was much greater than anticipated.

Today (Wednesday, April 1), we distributed 6,002 weekly boxes and a total of 11,108 hot lunches and prepackaged breakfasts. We are working to find a solution that will meet the needs of our community to ensure every child in need of a meal is able to get one. Families who were not able to get meals today can pick up meals each weekday at Covington High or Slidell High from 11 AM - 1 PM.

We understand how important it is for all those in need to have access to nutritious meals, and we are dedicated to continuing to support our STPPS community as we navigate this unprecedented situation together. Thank you for your continued patience.

We are here to provide support however we can, and we are working to get guidance on how this situation will impact the remainder of the school year and our STPPS Class of 2020. We greatly appreciate everyone's patience as we navigate this unprecedented situation together.

Grab and Go Meal Distribution Suspended
The St. Tammany Parish Public School System “Grab and Go” meal distribution program will be suspended effective immediately. Our School System is looking at alternative ways to distribute food to families in our community, and state officials have advised us there may be other statewide meal distribution possibilities.

We know this is an important service for our families in need at this time, but the safety and health of our students, employees and community remain our top priority. We appreciate the STPPS Food Service Managers, school administrators, and the PTA and community volunteers who worked last week and today to provide this service to our families. We will continue to follow the guidance of health officials as we evaluate the best and safest ways for our School System to provide support.

UPDATE: Friday, March 13, 2020

ALL STPPS SCHOOLS CLOSED EFFECTIVE MARCH 16
Governor John Bel Edwards issued an executive order closing all public school facilities to students in Louisiana until Monday, April 13, as a precautionary measure against the transmission of the coronavirus. All St. Tammany Parish Public Schools will close to students, effective Monday, March 16. This closure includes all STPPS athletics, activities, clubs, and events.

Beginning Monday March 16, all students are not to report to school.

School-based employees should not report to work until they receive further direction from their principal. School System leaders are working with school administrators and employees to implement plans to provide support services for students and families.

We understand that this will create hardship for many families. Our teachers, support staff, employees, and administration are grateful for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this difficult situation. We will get through this challenge together.

We will continue to monitor the development of COVID-19 and will plan accordingly, in partnership with local, state, and federal health and government officials. We will be sending updates with information and resources via robocalls, the district website, and district social media channels.
