Select your choice of 1 to 3 programs or sites and rank your preference. Parents and guardians who select a participating childcare center, Head Start, or St. Tammany Parish Pre K must meet both age and income requirements.
Step 2- Qualify and Verify Income
After the online application is received, families will receive an email with information about eligibility and registration for the program they selected.
Families selecting St. Tammany Parish Public School Pre K will need to bring income documents and a copy of the child’s birth certificate to one of the sign up events listed below. Get information about the requirements and eligibility. Families selecting Head Start or a participating childcare center may attend a sign up event for more information or to verify eligibility. Details about other options to register will be emailed to applicants.

St. Tammany Parish Public School System Pre K
4 Year Olds
The Public School Pre-k program provides a free daily education to four year old children who meet the income qualifications as determined by the State Department of Education. A sliding scale tuition fee may be charged for children who do not meet the income guidelines only after all who met the guidelines have been placed.
Early Head Start and Head Start
Birth to 4 Years Old
Head Start is a federally funded program for preschool children three to five years of age in low-income families. Early Head Start is a federally funded program for children from birth to age three in low-income families. In St Tammany Parish these programs are managed by a local nonprofit organization, Regina Coeli Child Development Center. Head Start offers center-based and home-based options at no cost to families.
Type III Childcare Centers
Birth to 5 Years Old
Type III child care centers have committed to working with other early care and education providers to raise the level of standards and expectations for children birth to age 5. Type III centers participate in the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) which assists low-income families with the costs of child care while they are at work or attending school.
Three Type III child care centers in St. Tammany provide a free Pre-K program for four year olds who meet the income requirements set by the State Department of Education. This program is funded by the Nonpublic Schools Early Childhood Development grant (NSECD).
Services for Children with Special Needs
An educational evaluation is offered for children ages 3 through 5 years not enrolled in Kindergarten who may have special needs. Children are served in homes, early learning centers and in public schools. Contact Early Childhood Special Education at 985-898-3345 for more information.
