Kids for Cops ::..
To show its support for law enforcement agencies throughout the parish and to encourage a greater awareness among students of how law enforcement officers help them and their families every day, the St. Tammany Parish Public School System launched the "Kids For Cops" program. The community fund-raising event engages students and staff members to participate in causes that will help individuals and projects within the law enforcement community.
Superintendent Sloan said the “Kids for Cops” project gives the School System a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for law enforcement’s contribution to the well-being of the community and School System. “We always have appreciated our relationship with the law enforcement community and hope in this way to express our gratitude for the outstanding service these men and women provide our parish,” she stated.

The first “Kids for Cops” fund-raising project by the St. Tammany Parish Public School System raised $24,256.68 to help defray the medical expenses of two Sheriff’s Deputies who were injured in automobile accidents in the summer of 2007. In return for their participation in the community involvement program, students and staff members were allowed to wear a cap or hat to school for the day on August 31, 2007.
Upon receiving the donation, Sheriff Jack Strain expressed his gratitude for the effort and told how much it meant to his deputies. “Our deputies go out daily to work and make sure our Parish is safe,” he said. “This donation by the school children is going to melt some of their hearts.”
The Kids for Cops program will give the School System a chance to show its ongoing strong support for those in law enforcement. The program provides tangible evidence of the cooperative relationship between the School System and the law enforcement community.
