Advanced Studies

Specially-designed courses in the areas of the arts and technology are offered to students from all St. Tammany Parish public high schools. The advanced studies program allows students academic enhancement beyond their traditional high school programs and can lead to industry-based certification or a head start in post-high school studies.

 

 


Advanced Broadcasting                           

Interested in a career in television? You'll learn how to write a script, operate a camera, and edit video while working alongside professionals from the broadcast industry now at Channel 13.

Eligibility

Juniors and seniors from all St. Tammany Parish Public High Schools are eligible to attend.

Course Location

The course will be held at the Channel 13 studios at the Treen Instructional Technology Center in Mandeville.

Transportation

Each student must provide their own transportation to the Channel 13 studios at the Treen Instructional Technology Center in Mandeville.

Course Credit

Students will receive one Carnegie Unit for the completion of the full year course.

Cisco                                                         

Get real world IT Certification before you graduate. Learn coursework needed to complete Cisco I and II and the Industry Based Certification Test.

Eligibility

Juniors and seniors from all St. Tammany Parish Public High Schools are eligible to attend.

Curriculum

The Cisco program contains rigorous technical computer classes that include multiple entry level information technology certifications enabling students to perform the following: install switches, router basics, networking basics, networking security, networking mathematics, hardware/software maintenance, cabling of LANs/WANs technologies, Ethernet operations, and troubleshooting. Very intense hands-on activities are included in the curriculum. These courses are an important first step in achieving CompTIA A+ certification as well as the globally recognized Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and CCENT Certification.

Prerequisites

Students must have basic knowledge and skills in computer hardware and software systems. Full year of IBCA or equivalent required.

Course Location

The course will be held at Lakeshore High School in Mandeville each school day.

Transportation

Each student must provide their own transportation to Lakeshore High School in Mandeville.

Course Credit

Students will receive one Carnegie Unit for the completion of the full year course. Students will also be eligible to take a test to earn Industry based certification after completion of the course.

Advanced Dance                                               

Come join us in a unique experience exploring advanced form, movement, rhythm, and technique.

Eligibility

Juniors and seniors from all St. Tammany Parish Public High Schools are eligible to attend.

Curriculum

The Study of Dance class will be studio dance exploring a variety of dance styles and techniques, as well as the history and evolution of dance.

Prerequisites

Prior knowledge of dance and the ability to demonstrate basic dance technique. Written recommendation (preferably from a dance instructor). Screening with the Lakeshore High School dance instructor at Lakeshore High School dance studio required.

Course Location

The course will be held at Lakeshore High School in Mandeville each school day.

Transportation

Each student must provide their own transportation to Lakeshore High School in Mandeville.

Course Credit

Students will receive one Carnegie Unit for completion of the full year course. The course counts as a one year fine arts elective toward TOPS.
