STPPS National Merit Finalists Recognized ::..

Nine students from Northshore High, Mandeville High, Fontainebleau High and Lakeshore High were recognized at the May School Board Meeting as National Merit Finalists.

Superintendent Folse introduced the students, who all recently graduated, and gave an overview of their accomplishments, career interests, community service activities and college plans.

The finalists are Andrew Roy Bennett and Alexander Michael Lew from Northshore High, Christopher J. Klein, Ana K. Owen and Corey P. St. Romain from Mandeville High, Louis Bubrig, Rachel Campbell and Sara Pohlman from Fontainebleau High, and Michelle DeGeorge from Lakeshore High.

Lakeshore High Teacher Wins Monteleone Technology Award ::..

The 2014-2015 Monteleone Technology Award was presented to Lakeshore High School teacher Dr. Barrett Adams who believes the future of technology in the classroom lies in 3D printing.

The grant award of $1000 will go toward acquiring a 3D printer at Lakeshore High School.

Dr. Adams believes 3D printing and the creation of 3D images at Lakeshore High School has the potential to directly impact about 200 students a year.

Students will be able to use 3D printing across multiple subjects for projects such as models of cells, amino acids, and organs for Biology, replicas of historical objects for History and precise objects for experiments in Physics.

Superintendent's Award Winners ::..

The winner of the Superintendent's Award for Outstanding Character and Citizenship this year is the Buddy Bench Program submitted by Abita Elementary.

The finalist is Amanda Haley, a student from Covington High, who is raising awareness and money for Chiari malformation.

At the May School Board meeting, Superintendent Folse honored the recipients and presented them each with a check from Capitol One Bank to further their efforts.

“Our theme this school year is “Moving Forward: Children. Community. Commitment. These two awards sum up that theme. They are all about our Children, they involve our Community, and they include a Commitment to making the world a better place,” said Superintendent Folse.

St. Tammany Schools Win Savannah's Challenge Contest ::..

St. Tammany Parish Public School students have gone above and beyond the challenge, sending out more thank you cards to local law enforcement officers than any other school district in the area during the Crimestoppers initiative “Savanah’s Challenge.”

Out of all the schools in the district, Little Oak Middle School sent out the most cards and was awarded a pizza party at the school on Thursday. The students wrote more than 1,000 cards to local law enforcement officers thanking them for their dedication and service to the community.

25 St. Tammany Schools Meet HealthierUS School Challenge ::..

Healthy school meals and an emphasis on physical education make St. Tammany Parish Public Schools a leader in the nation in the area of school nutrition.

Twenty-five schools have met the HealthierUS School Challenge and received the prestigious USDA Gold Award of Distinction, a larger number than any other school district in the United States.
